IRVING, Texas -- The franchise-tag deadline will come and go without the Dallas Cowboys using it for one big reason: They don't have the cap room necessary to use it. In 2012 and '13, the Cowboys used their franchise tag on outside linebacker/defensive end Anthony Spencer, paying him roughly $19 million. Defensive tackle Jason Hatcher would be the only candidate for the tag among the Cowboys' current free agents, but that would be a lot of cap space to use on a soon-to-be 32-year-old defensive tackle with just one season of more than four sacks.Continue reading...
