Rick Reilly had Landry at #6. Which was higher than both Chuck Noll and Bill Walsh.

He had Joe Gibbs at #2 because he won 3 Super Bowls with 3 different QB's, none of which are in the Hall of Fame.

As to Tom, a top 10 coach, but if you stick around the league for what, 30 years, you will win plenty or lose plenty. Boff I guess.

ESPN and logic went out the window about a decade ago, they're strictly about ratings at this point.

In my mind there are three things that seperate Tom Landry from other coaches. First, he didn't win with one group of players. He basically had three different eras of players that he won with.

Secondly, show me another coach on the list that developed an offensive system AND a defensive system.

If both Landry and Jimmy Johnson are in the top 10, then I think it's fair enough, regardless of where exactly their ranking happens to be.

I think it's a fine list with the possible exception of Madden being in the top 10.

The fact you can stay a HC for 30 years without getting fired is tough. I love Jimmy but there were other factors that played a role. Plan B Free Agency and of course the Walker Trade. What Tom did was take a new franchise without the luxury of getting the top pick out of the draft and was stuck with castoff players and yet built a franchise that produced 28 years of winning and being a top contending team.

As much as I love Jimmy I can't put him over Tom. Tom's longevity, consistency are what puts him ahead of Jimmy. Had Jimmy stayed to see the dynasty through meaning 1 or 2 more Super Bowl titles to his resume then yes I would put Jimmy ahead but as we all know unfortunately he didn't.

Any list that has belicheck over Bill Walsh I don't take serious.

Walsh won 3 SB's in SF. Some could argue that the 2 SB's that Seifert won were with Walsh's teams.

Then look at his coaching tree. Shanahan, Holmgren also won SB's.

Walsh changed the game and should be a lock for top 5.

As for the Jimmy over Landry...love them both but we are talking an NFL record 25 years straight with a winning record. Spanned multiple decades and styles and won. Sorry, Landry is tops in that battle...(still love you Jimmy)
