Cam Newton wasn't even considered the best player in his draft at this juncture. That was D'Quan Bowers.

A lot can change.

I think a lot of people saying this is a "weak QB class" actually want it to be that way so it avoids the question.

And people thought 2012 was a "strong" QB draft. Luck, Griffin, Tannehill and Weeden in the first. Looks like a one player crop to me.

It is a very hard position to draft. But to go with "common knowledge" is a waste of time.
Did you have a coherent point?

Cam was in the conversation of going number 1 this point last year with his undefeated Auburn team. He has/had rare measurables and heard multiple people saying he had the highest ceiling of any QB they had ever scouted when it was all said and done.

Nobody is saying that about any QB in this draft nor have said it all year. These qbs will rise because that is what they do.

With an all-pro talent at QB on the roster why in the world would we reach for a guy at the tippy top of the 1st round who isn't considered one of the best players in his class?

If it is a qb fine. It is very unlikely to be.

Not that much different than any other year.

People keep pretending there are strong QB years all the time and honestly, if you look back in history, that doesn't exist.

There was one huge QB draft in 1983. The rest are one and two player crops. Sometimes complete wastes.

So if you are just going to wait for your need and that great QB class to converge to make it simple, you will be waiting for a very very long time.

The 2004 draft was a pretty standout QB class as well. 3 possible future HOF players and Matt Ryan. I get what you're saying though.

Every year it's "this is a weak QB class. Wait until next year, it's better." Then the next year arrives and wash, rinse, repeat.

True, but in 2004, nobody was talking about anyone but Manning as being a Blue Chipper.

Rivers blew up in the Senior Bowl. Roethlisberger was mid round pick.

I don't know why you mentioned Matt Ryan. He has nothing to do with those players and frankly looks like he has hit a wall.

I understand your sentiment , I really do but how does winning these last two games help this organization!?

Are you serious? How does losing help this organization? I take it that you have never played in any kind of competition? the object of any kind of competition is to win, am I right or am I wrong? If I am wrong please tell me so. I do not understand you younger generation, I tell my son all the time I hated and I still hate to lose at anything and that anyone that is okay with losing is a loser and they will never win in life there is no such thing as a good loser, or a good loss. That kind of thinking is the most idiotic thinking that I have ever heard. This country was made great by people that hated to lose.

So going 5-11 is a winning mentality, but 4-12 is a loser mentality?

Bro, the only difference between 4 wins or 5 wins is draft order, if anybody cant see that I cant help them. Even Jerry gets it, he said he was "lusting after a top draft pick".

If you are getting wood just thinking about a top 5 pick, there is no way in hell you are rooting for a win the next two weeks. Jerry can give lip service to saying the team is going to play hard, but we all know what Jerry is thinking and hoping for.

yes the only difference is 1 win, but it is still more than 4 any way you add it up. Iwould much rather be 5-11 than 4-12, we will still get a top 10 pick. Really I do not even like picking in the top 10 as a matter of fact I would much rather be picking 32. So I am looking for wins these last 2 weeks

Maybe on the Ryan part. He still is good enough to win with. Probably a top 10-12 QB in the league for most of his career. Point is, people wanting to wait for these great QB classes before drafting one are going to be waiting for a long time. IF there is a can't miss franchise QB in the draft which is rare enough in itself, you better time it perfectly with a 2 win season or you won't get him anyways. Trust your scouts and throw picks at the position until you get it right. If Goff or Lynch are close to good value qhen we're on the clock then they need to be the pick.

Still grasping onto that "we should never want to lose any games" stuff, eh?

It made sense a couple of weeks ago.

But these are literally two garbage games that make zero impact on the future.

All it does is make the current regime feel better about themselves, which in of itself, is a little dangerous.

There is nothing to play for.

Pride? Beating a bad Buffalo team matters?

Spoiling the Commanders shot so an equally odious and undeserving team wins the division?

Whatever.

I won't root for a loss, but I will feel just like I felt the other night. Relieved this season is one game closer to ending.

what the heck are you talking about, it will have no impact on the future? losing just to get a higher draft pick, that is very stupid, that also can have zero impact

How does beating the Bills and Commanders have an impact on the future?

Serious question. Please take the time to answer it with something tangible.

Would being 11-5 or 10-6 last year made a difference to you if all things otherwise were constant?

losing just to get a higher draft pick, that is very stupid, that also can have zero impact

See, a draft choice is tangible.

It is real. Picking three, four, six choices later can mean the difference in being allowed the privilege of selecting one of the best players or being forced to fill a need or take a lower rated player on your board.

But those two wins, golly, they mean something in the long run.

And again, to reiterate. Not actively wishing for a loss in either game. But if it happens, I won't be busted up about it and look to see what can be gained because we couldn't.

Say we win them both, what is gained. Again, another question I think bears answering

You are re-creating what you want to be the case about that draft. At this time, in that draft, Newton was known more for being a risk and for his "fake smile" than anything he has become. People were intrigued by his upside, but he was not quite regarded as the sure fire hands down slam dunk top prospect.

We have an all-pro talent at QB that is unlikely to play sixteen games next year nor play in a full complement of games over the next two.

Would it not make sense to at least consider a top shelf talent, if it is so deemed, when you are in the position to get it?

We can discuss again in April. Maybe then you can tell me that the QBs going at the tippy top of the first round have no business going there.

I have repeatedly said if a qb is worth it when we pick...then let's take him.

At this point it looks to be a reach.

Personally I like Nkemdiche at this point for our team.

But he's too busy getting high and falling out of windows.

Sorry I would have more respect for him and his intellect if he would just smoke real weed and own up to it. The synthetic has messed him and his brother up badly. I would not touch him with a ten foot pole.

how many times has high draft picks been a bust? Maybe you cannot answer that. Bro if you cannot figure out in all the education you have had how finishing the season with wins helps for the next season, I cannot help you, I will not help you understand that, because in my mind I play to win every time I compete regardless of the record

Most people that smoke weed aren't going to walk through windows and fall a couple of stories. Something is wrong with that kid.

I get you. Sadly he is who I wanted at this stage.

Ramsey would be a next guy i'd look at.

Not sold on him as a top five player in this draft either.

I don't have a good grasp on this class like I usually do. I usually can identify a handful of studs.

Even the "studs", like Ramsey, are debatable for me.

And the QBs not even standing out amongst this crop. May be a tough year to be top 5. But the good thing is you're top 5 every round. That matters in grabbing talent.

We should see 20-30% roster turnover between draft picks and our flexibility in free agency.

Our window isn't closed...but whether we draft a QB in the 1st or not....Next season still rests on Romo's body.

I get the window closing idea.

But we have been looking at it for a while now.

All I am suggesting is that you shift away from that idea and keep all options open.

Romo will not be our starter to finish his contract. So we will need a cheap starter and a rookie is the best way to do that.
