Roy Williams
2007 Scouting Report - Scouts Inc.

Grade: 85 | Key
Alert: None

Comment: Williams is intimidating, athletic and makes plays. He is the classic prototype strong safety. He punishes receivers over the middle and can make game-changing tackles. He is tough, plays with a mean streak and is an outstanding hitter. He thrives when playing in the box and attacking near the line of scrimmage. He is an excellent blitzer who has a second gear and good upfield burst to the quarterback. He reads plays quickly and has sideline-to-sideline range. But Williams isn't nearly the player in coverage that he is against the run. He isn't comfortable or effective in deep-half (cover 2) schemes. He isn't as good in zone or man-to-man as his tools suggest he should be. He has trouble in turn-and-run situations. He simply isn't natural in coverage and moves further out of his element the farther he is from the line of scrimmage.

*Note: Scale Scoring is on 100 point scale. Roy scores 85. Ware scores 80 and Owens scores 83. Williams is the highest scoring Cowboy.

Pobably based off potential, the "experts" love to play the potential game.

Yes, he is an excellent blitzer. Put him in a scheme (not Zimmer's) where everyone on the offensive side of the ball doesn't know he's coming then he'll have a chance.

He'll make plays blitzing this year. It's only 2 games in to the new system, give it some time.

I've always thought Roy was one of our best blitzers.. The last year or two, Parcells had him just running straight into the offensive line, it was the same blitz everytime and he never had a chance.. But his first few years, everyone thought he was much underused as a blitzer.. He is great at getting to the QB.. He punishes RBs that try to block him.. Did you see this weekend where he pushed the RB into Trent Green on a blitz and caused a big incompletion on 3rd down.. Roy's powerful, intimidating and fast on his blitzes and he sheds blockers well.. He's actually become a target of o-lineman, a pretty huge compliment for a DB..

he caused problems blitzing already against the Dolphins. He didn't get the sack but he caused Green to throw early and get an imcomplete pass. And that tackle on 3rd down to stop that drive was a great play.

Could someone post the scouting report on Ware, Newman, or TO? I would have thought all three would rated much higher.

Yeah, I think he is a decent blitzer and let's finally all agree, Zimmer stunk...Roy will be a potent blitzer, especially when Newman is healthier.

As for the scouting on his coverage abilities, does it really matter if it was done during his rookie year?...Sounds like it applies to him today as well.

Yeah I fear Zimmer may have permanently neutered too many of the cowboys still on the roster. He already at least SEMI neutered Roy, I just hope he can "get 'em back".

Too many players got ruined by that clown, I hope he had no lasting effect on Ware.

Classic...they need some sort of ritual cleansing to remove the ill effects.

Does Randy White have a weekend camp for young men they can all go to?

RW is a hard guy to rate because he makes more game changing plays than perhaps any safety in football. He can be torched in coverage but he can also cause guys to drop passes just by being in the area and his int numbers are very high for a strong safety.

He can fight off blocks and make tackles.

He is simply a bad change of direction guy.

This is so true. Many of us were saying 2 or 3 years ago that we were amazed at how high draft picks would come in and have great 1st years and then by reined in by the system and coaches. They could have made average players out of Ray Lewis and Deion Sanders in their prime.
