ESPN: Jason Garrett to discuss Zeke Elliott's play: it was not up to our standard

Seems like the clapper revving up the bus for a run at Elliott. He best be careful, he needs Prescott and Elliott a heck of a lot more than they need him. He is just barely a figurehead coach with no real abilities beyond the players and a couple of assistants.

Haven't heard anything about it's his job and the other coaches responsibility to put the players in the best position to be successful. This was a total team collapse and the coaches are to blame as much as anyone.

He probably was asked directly about Zeke's effort on that specific play.

If he were asked about the job the coaches did, I'm sure he'd be critical. He'd be an idiot to say another else after the butt kicking his team took, and he's not an idiot.

But this thread was about Elliott's effort, which was sub-par yesterday, for sure.

The coaches are more to blame. The team wasn't ready to play from the get go...That is totally on the clappers account.

I do.

I'm not expecting greatness. But I am asking for them to at least be respectable. They pulled that off last year.
No you don't. You saying that to be right. Nobody thinks nothing of this crap D and its been that way for awhile. Its always give us what you got but on days like yesterday this is kinda expected from the D not the O

Zeke hasn't had much adversity in his athletic career. I remember watching that National Championship game and thinking I wish we could get a back like him, but we'd never have a chance.

Well now we have him, and he's a great talent. But I always thought you learn a lot about someone's true character when things are down. I hope Zeke uses this experience to decide he's going to give everything he has from here on out no matter what. We'll see.

No, I do expect more. The secondary was thinned out by injuries yesterday, yes, so we can throw that out there. But the Cowboys have a Pro Bowl LB in Sean Lee. They invested a lot of draft picks in recent years on defensive linemen- DeMarcus Lawrence, Maliek Collins, Charles Tapper, Taco Charlton.

I wasn't saying this just to be right. If the Cowboys truly believe in these guys, than it's time to see some tangible results on the field.

You are entitled to your opinion, but yesterday was a completely unacceptable effort for an NFL defense. There's no excuse. No Dallas fan, coach, or player should be ready to accept that type of effort. Sorry, maybe it's just me.

Its not about accepting effort its about being realistic. I don't expect a Prius to beat a Lamborghini in a race and this D is a Prius. They aren't good and expecting a not good unit to be good because you said so is wild to me. I don't want them to be trash but unfortunately that's exactly what they are.

I'm amazed that while all the hate is being tossed at Dak, Zeke, Dez, and Garrett, we tend to forget the defense.

Trevor Siemien lit us up. And I'm not even sure I'm spelling his name right. The guy may end up having a heck of a career, but this was still a total team loss.
Trevor lit up college players. Ever ask why he was mostly in shotgun? This was shooting fish in a barrel.

Siemien has a Kellen Moore level arm. And he destroyed our defense. I don't think he threw a deep pass all day. Funny how everyone is complaining that Dak didn't throw deep yet it the same game plan tore us a new one.

While no defense for Zeke, Is JG looking in the mirror also......Coaching is expected also.
Way to turn it right around on the coach for calling out a star player who was dogging it. The exact thing he should do. No coddling of star players. Thats what I expect of a head coach.

And without Romo to clean up his messes, I believe his leash is a lot shorter, even though we all know Jerry thinks the world of him.

Agreed. Many of the same people complaining about Garrett calling out Zeke would be complaining about not holding players accountable if Garrett did not say anything.

And today we all knew what would happen: all the sports "experts' talking about how Siemien is underrated and maybe so much better than first thought. Makes me wonder if they even watched the game. Easy to play pitch and catch when you have a 7-yard cushion on every play.

Jerry has practically raised Jason into a HC. He is not going anywhere. He is a Bill Belichick want-a-be with some personality. I am not complaining about the play calling of yesterday because that was obvious, I was not pleased with the play calling of the giants game. I think they are going the same route with Dak as they did with Tony. They do well when the offense has a good running game, however I am afraid Linehan is overdoing the pass calling.

Haven't seen the play but it was reported Zeke was loafing on Talib's pick-6 too.

What a hero.
