ARLINGTON, Texas -- While there were some "We want Romo" and "Tony, Tony, Tony" chants in the second half of Dallas' 42-21 win over the Detroit Lions on Monday night, the Cowboys never had their franchise leader in passing yards and touchdown tosses take a snap.

Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones does not want Romo to take a snap in Sunday's Week 17 finale against the Philadelphia Eagles, either.

"Because I don't like the circumstance it would come under, which would be injury," Jones said before stepping onto the elevator to his suite after the game.

Dak Prescott will start against the Eagles, and it is possible the team could also activate third-string quarterback Mark Sanchez in addition to Romo. The Cowboys (13-2) already had the top seed in the NFC clinched before Monday night's win.

I agree.

I want to see him play but that's a tough place to come out after a year off, especially in bad weather. He knows what he's doing, getting a series or two won't matter, plus he throws against the defense in practice every week.

Dak shouldn't even play wither and certainly not Zeke or Lee. There were a couple of its hits where Dak landed on his shoulder that I held my breath.

Philly players and fans would like nothing more than to hang their hat on they injured one of our stars just before the playoffs.

Just get it over with.

What this tells me is Jerry is considering moving Romo. Maybe for the first time since he came back from injury.

Why risk him and devalue whatever profit he might bring by a poor performance or getting injured again.

This is dak's show now, win, lose, or draw.

I don't understand this. In my lowly opinion, the ideal situation would be for Romo to play the entire 2nd half against the Eagles for two reasons - to shake off rust in case he is needed in the playoffs and to enhance his potential trade value (I think he'll light up the Eagles secondary).

is he afraid that Romos last home regular season game would have ended with Romo being taken out on a stretcher? He is the backup. Let him take a couple of snaps when the game is way out of reach. We cant risk having our starter, who is the best QB on the team, get injured. Look what happened to Carr in oak.

Then why the hell is he on the team?

He is the backup now, which means he should be doing backup stuff. Like coming in to relieve the starter in a meaningless game when the score is out of reach.

Exactly. If Tony comes in and stinks it up or gets injured again, his trade value likely goes to zero. Keep him healthy and get what you can for him in the off season.

Its obvious Romo can't play at a high level anymore. If a backup QB who badly needs reps can't get on the field in the 4th quarter of a meaningless home game with a 21pt lead it says it all.

Sanchez should play next week and be the active #2 in the playoffs. Sentiment has to step aside.

The ideal situation would have been to play him the second half against Detroit, which doesn't have as good of a defense as Philly.

Yup.

Or... he will have to be backup next year. Whether he likes it or not.

To me its like preparing to put a used Ferrari on the car lot but not letting customers take it on a test drive because your afraid the wheels are going to come off.
If I can't drive it, I'm not buying.

No one knows if Romo can play at a high level anymore including the Cowboys. I believe they think he can and it isn't necessary for him to prove it, but based on his injury, I believe he needed to be in there.

I think this is just poor deference to the player that Romo has been instead of due diligence to find out what player he is now.
