ESPN: Jones considering Pacman return

Jerry Jones reportedly considering bringing back Pacman Jones

Maybe Pacman Jones actually knew what he was talking about when he predicted months ago that he'd be back at Valley Ranch this season.

Or maybe Jerry Jones enjoyed the grand opening of Cowboys Stadium so much that his judgment was temporarily clouded.

Whatever the case may be, Jerry cracked open the door to Pacman's return when he told a reporter late Saturday night that he was considering bringing back the controversial cornerback. "Would you beat me up too bad if I brought back Adam?" Jerry asked.

For business reasons, I'd be all for it. Pacman is an endless well of blog fodder.

As far as the Cowboys' best interests go, Jerry must be crazy.

Jerry, who blames the bodyguard for Jivin' at the Joule Gone Wrong, says he isn't concerned about Pacman's off-the-field problems. Well, why did the Cowboys cut him in the first place? And why hasn't another team given him even a sniff since then?

Pacman didn't make an impact for the Cowboys last season. He was OK as a cornerback and awful as a punt returner. The Cowboys went 4-5 with him and 5-2 without him. Why even consider adding all the distractions for a player who isn't a difference-maker? That would ruin much of the locker room clean-up work the Cowboys did this off-season.

And, as anybody who watched Pacman's work on Pros vs. Joes could tell you, he isn't exactly in great football shape.

And Jerry acknowledges that Pacman's presence could stunt the progress of Orlando Scandrick and Mike Jenkins. As excited as the Cowboys are about the young cornerbacks, that's reason enough to steer clear of Pacman.

Just a hunch, but I'll bet that Jerry backpedals like a cornerback when asked about the possibility of Pacman's return during tomorrow's OTA workout.

The snozberries taste like snozberries.

If we have to go for a character issue guy, lets do Matt Jones. I'm more worried about receiver than CB. I think we are set at corner and our rookies will only be better this year.

Can't believe Jerry would even consider it. Actually, it is Jerry so its pretty believable.

If ever there was a vet leader on the team, it would be nice for him to go into Jerry's office and say the team doesn't want Pacman.

I'm not going to overreact on this because i know Jerry just can't control his big mouth, or maybe it's the fact he'll say or do anything to bring attention to the Cowboys or maybe he's just nuts?

I know i'm in the minority when i say i hope we bring him back... he was our best cb when he played and other than 1 incident (which might not have been his fault) there wasnt a lot of trouble from him. If it doesnt happen i wont be disappointed but he would help our secondary if we brought him back.

Pacman was accepted in the locker room by his teammates. That's all that worries me other than the propensity of getting into trouble.

Is this really the case though. I do know that Newman and others were upset that Jones played over the rookies immediately post-suspension (he actually came back playing very well though).

Nah, not a better person, but I'd make a darn sight better GM.

Oh wait....maybe you could team up with Bach and form Bach/Knight "super GM".

...OR...go back to actually doing something you may or may not have a clue about.

Good luck with whatever endeavor you choose.

Shut the hell up, Jerry.

Anyone else think at least half of Jerry's lunatic comments over the years have been alcohol-induced?

he was drunk at a party when Jimmy Johnson's rebuff broke the camel's back

Im the #1 anti Pacrat poster on this board but i'll trust whatever decision Jerry and the Cowboys make.

They are much closer to the situation than we are and they know him on a personal level much more than any of us.

Whoever heard of a snozberry?:p:

I'm on the fence with this one, as well.

On one hand, you have the most productive CB of the Cowboys, playing in only 10 games in a limited role. On the other hand, he's an idiot. On one hand, you gain a little insurance policy in a position that is pretty lacking in veteran leadership; especially considering Terence Newman has missed significant time due to injury in back to back seasons. On the other hand, with Pacman comes drama regardless of if he insights it or not. The media will make damn sure Pacman stays under the microscope...and quite frankly I'm tired of my beloved football being turned into a soap opera.

Would Pacman Stop Progress?

A major theme of the Cowboys’ off-season has been a shift toward younger, homegrown players. At wide receiver, that means Miles Austin and Sam Hurd will get more opportunities. At linebacker, that means Anthony Spencer will be a full-time starter. At cornerback, that presumably means Mike Jenkins and Orlando Scandrick will compete for a starting job.

Now this: According to a Fort Worth Star-Telegram report from Saturday night’s Cowboys Stadium concert, team owner Jerry Jones admitted he has considered bringing back embattled corner Adam “Pacman” Jones, who was officially released on Feb. 9 and unofficially dropped as far back as early January before NFL teams were allowed to make waiver requests.

That said, the Cowboys have had no contact with Pacman’s camp as of Monday. And when the team traded veteran corner Anthony Henry to Detroit on the first day of free agency, I was told by a high-ranking official that the Cowboys were prepared to let Jenkins and Scandrick play more – that it was time to find out more about them after both had smaller roles as rookies.

Clearly, Jones returning doesn’t appear to be an imminent situation, and it’s probably a long shot at that.

Re-signing him would replenish some of the corner depth lost by Henry’s departure. Not sure what type of football shape Jones is in – we last saw him on, of all things, Pros vs. Joes – but he is a very talented guy. At the same time, he also might limit playing time for Jenkins and/or Scandrick.

Plus, the Cowboys have apparently made an effort to rid themselves of distractions, and Jones is still a media lightning rod even if he stays out of trouble.

I thought the whole suspension thing while he was here was kinda stupid.
I don't want him back cause he sucked not because he broke a mirror

Agreed. I don't know why Pacman receives so much hate, when he (NOT Newman, Henry, Scandrick, Jenkins) graded out the BEST of all of our cornerbacks last year.

Is he immature? Terribly so.
He would help our secondary because Newman is almost guaranteed to miss 1-2 games this year because of an injury. You can never have too many good corners.

Cowboys have not contacted Adam Jones' agent

If the Cowboys are interested in reuniting with cornerback Adam Jones six months after they released him, they have yet to contact his agent.

According to a report, owner and general manager Jerry Jones is considering giving Jones another shot with the Cowboys, despite the team's stated happiness with second-year cornerbacks Mike Jenkins and Orlando Scandrick.

"He would love to have another opportunity with the Cowboys," Jones' agent, Worrick Robinson said. "When he left he was hoping that there would be that possibility. I think he was a productive player when he was on the field and the gradings showed that. But when he was released it was certainly disappointing but he knows it's a business."

Robinson said he has talked with several teams, which he would not identify, and has talked with the fledgling UFL as well. Jones does not face any penalties from the league, although another incident could lead to his permanent banishment.

"We've been told to be patient and that's what we're doing," Robinson said. "If something works out, I think it'll be closer to training camp. It's not surprising to know that [teams] don't want the discussions taking place in the media just because it creates a whirlwind atmosphere again."
