ESPN: Mark Schlereth on Troy Aikman's doubts about Roy Williams

If he was expecting good things from Roy, I don't think he'd be planting seeds of doubt. He was very hard on Roy during the last Philly game, calling him out for his poor route running. That no doubt left a bad impression on Troy, who never had any patience for less than meticulous receivers.

I came away thinking the opposite: that Aikman was laying down the gauntlet for a player who's got a reputation as being a moderate-effort guy.

I also think this was a swipe manufactured for getting some attention for the press conference Aikman was shilling. If that's the case, then it worked.

I have less concern over whether or not Roy can produce than I do that he can stay healthy for a full season. He has only played 16 games once and that was 2006 when he went to the Pro-Bowl.

Frankly, we don't need him to catch 100 passes for 1500 yards and I seriously doubt he will. I would rather see him as just one of the weapons we have on offense and see the ball spread around a lot more than it was last season.

With Roy, Witten, Bennett, Felix Jones, Barber, Austin (I hope), Crayton, etc. all being part of the passing game, we should see the ball distributed much more evenly than last year.

Williams doesn't need to be THE GUY, he just needs to be reliable and make plays when his number is called.

As far as the Roy Williams/wide receiver/passing offense topic is concerned, this is the post of the day. :clap2:

Roy is a great possession reciever, he will be lights out in the red zone for us this year. In 06 he broke 1300 yards in Detroit, imagine what he will do playing on an actual football team. Roy's going to have 10+ TD's this season...here's why.

No corner can compete with Roy in the endzone on a fade route. Toss it up and he'll get it..ALA Bucs game. Romo and Roy need to be working on that this offseason and TC because it will be MONEY!

I really don't care what Mark Schlereth or Troy Aikman think about Roy Williams. Frankly, the OL is a much bigger concern. They do their job, the rest will take care of itself.
