Cameron East Lansing, MI: Does Clinton Portis have a legitimate shot at winning the MVP?

sn2.gif
Matt Mosley: Good morning and good afternoon. I've spent the past 30 minutes trying to interpret wildly different messages from Wade Phillips and Jerry Jones. But first let's do the Portis question. He's been brilliant, Cameron. Averages more rushing attempts (22) than any back in the league and he's just been unstoppable. He definitely has a shot.

Luis (SB, CA): Happy Friday Matt. If Romo is a no-go this sunday, and the Boys lose with Brad at the helm, does Romo then urge the coaches furthermore for a start against the Bucs. I say there's now way Romo sits 2 games stright. Dude is a competitor in every sense of the word

sn2.gif
Matt Mosley: Luis: I think the Cowboys medical staff really thinks he should sit out a week. But I think it's important for Romo to push this thing. Jerry comes on the radio this morning and basically says it looks like Romo's playing. Wade comes out for a news conference and seems to indicate the exact opposite. These guys are either playing games -- or they don't talk.

Matt (Houston): Mosley, does the NFC East go 3-0 this weekend?

sn2.gif
Matt Mosley: I think so. But the Commanders can't come out flat against the Browns. Cleveland has some momentum after a dreadful start. But yes, 3-0 sounds right to me.

Tim (NJ): Anyway Manningham sees more reps this week? I know it's tough with Burres, Toomer, Smith and Hixon ahead of him.

sn2.gif
Matt Mosley: Tim: I think it will be a blowout, so yes, you'll see Manningham get some reps.

eric sf: Please tell me Nolan is gone after this week's lost to the giants? Where do the 49ers go from there?

sn2.gif
Matt Mosley: Eric:

I'm not hearing rumblings of an in-season firing there, but feel free to reach out to Mike Sando of NFC West blog fame.

Jeff (Delray Beach, FL): Who do you think is on the upset alert this week in the Top 25?

sn2.gif
Matt Mosley: I think Oklahoma State should be on full alert. Art Briles knows their scheme really well and the Cowboys may suffer a letdown after a huge road win over Mizzou. I also think Mizzou has a great shot at knocking off UT.

Galloway (Cownation): How much do I frustrate you during our show?

sn2.gif
Matt Mosley: I can't even come up with an appropriate word to represent that type of frustration.

Yat (LA): I know it's too late at this point, but do you have any info as to what the Eagles offered for Tony G? I'm tired of seeing LJ Smith drop passes and stop halfway through his routes!

sn2.gif
Matt Mosley: You know what, I'll try to find that out for both teams. I should have an answer for the Giants by the end of the day. Keep refreshing the NFC East blog every 10 seconds or so.

Kelly (Christiansen): Are there any CB's out there the Boys could sign or do they feel comfortable enough with the 2 rookies they got now?

sn2.gif
Matt Mosley: I keep hearing Ty Law's name come up. Let me snoop around today and see what I can find out.

Peter (Silverspring, MD): Afternoon mat. Quick question for you. Last year it seemed teh cowboys ran alot more playaction; in the 'Zona game last week, I'm not sure they ran it even once in the first half. You know anythign about these choices of theirs?

sn2.gif
Matt Mosley: They were in the shotgun a ton. That changes the dynamic of the play-action game. Quite honestly, they haven't been successful enough in the running game for the play-action to be there. Time for your guy Garrett to start acting like the $3 million man.

Tony (Montana): Will the loss of McBriar have a major impact on special teams?

sn2.gif
Matt Mosley: Tony:

He's a tremendous weapon. He has the biggest leg in the game -- and that includes fellow Australiant Sav Rocca. He's also a finesse guy, though. I don't know a ton about Palescue. Not even sure that's how you spell his name.

Travis (Braham, MN): Does anyone ever call you "Sugar" Matt Mosley?

sn2.gif
Matt Mosley: On occasion.

Pete (Houston): If Romo isnt declared the starter on Sunday, will he dress for the game with the possibility to enter if need be or will he be inactive?

sn2.gif
Matt Mosley: Pete:

It's a good question. I don't think the Cowboys have decided yet on this one. I think there's a distinct possibility that Romo is the No. 2, which would be like Vinny-Drew Henson scenario from Thanksgiving in 2004.

Geoff (NY): Is Eli worth a contract as large as his brothers?

sn2.gif
Matt Mosley: Eli has the same number of Super Bowl wins as his brother. He'll eventually make even more.

shane (dale city VA): Springs and smoot doubtfull this week...How bad is that gonna hurt my Commanders

sn2.gif
Matt Mosley: Shane: Carlos Rogers will have to play really well, and Leigh Torrence has to shake off the play at the end of the Rams game. He was in positioin to make a play, but he did a poor job of finding the ball.

Simply Shawwa (San Francisco, CA): Lets talk about the bad Roy Williams. I know he is expected to return, but is his arm completely healed or will he be wearing a cast of some sort?

sn2.gif
Matt Mosley: He'll have some extra padding on there, but it won't be anything too dramatic. Actually, the Cowboys could really use him against the run Sunday.

Tony (Brooklyn, NY): Did the Browns set a template for beating the Giants or did they mostly catch them flat footed? Thanks!

sn2.gif
Matt Mosley: The latter

sn2.gif
Matt Mosley: The latter

Robbie ( Gainesville,FL): First off, How bout them Skins! Surprising me this season! My question is how banged up are the hawgs? I read a report that Portis, Taylor, and Horton are all kinda iffy this week. We need are defense to be ready to go especially if the Browns are starting to make a season outta 08. Your thoughts?

sn2.gif
Matt Mosley: Robbie: I talked to someone last night with the Commanders who said it was likely that Portis would play. Now as sure about Horton and Taylor.

Rich (DC): TGIF Matt. Do think the Cowboys gave up too much for Roy E. Williams?

sn2.gif
Matt Mosley: I think it will end up being a good deal for both teams. The Lions were able to get the first-round pick because they knew how desperate Jerry was. But with T.O. struggling and getting older, you had to address receiver at some point. You could either take a kid in the draft and wait for him to develop or take someone who's ready to go. Good trade both ways.

Matt (Chicago): Only a crazy person would give Eli a contract as big as Peyton's. Eli's highest QB rating is this year 91.4, that would be Peyton's 7th best. They are not even comparable, the giants defense won the superbowl.

sn2.gif
Matt Mosley: Look at Peyton's contract now. Because of what's happened with money in this league, Eli will get comparable money. And passer rating is such a misleading stat to throw around.

Kelly (Texas): I understand that Romo is heads and tails better than Brad Johnson, but if we can afford to sit Romo for at least a week and let Brad Johnson win a game for us why would Wade Phillips not just do that, instead of risk possibly further injuring Romo's finger?

sn2.gif
Matt Mosley: You actually think this is Wade's call? C'mon. I'm with you, though. Don't risk it against the Rams. There is risk of further injury even though Jerry apparently doesn't think so.

Robbie ( Gainesville,FL): Have you seen/heard any rumblings about what Shaun Alexander has done to impress Zorn, is he healthy or was this Zorn being a Seattle homer?

sn2.gif
Matt Mosley: Listen, Zorn was thrilled to get a great running back like Portis. He watched Alexander stumble around for a couple of seasons, and would never think of him as a starter. This is an insurance policy. And he's doing an old friend a favor.

M (DC): How are Cowboys going to address their needs at cornerback and left tackle (Flozel is getting really old) after they traded away their 1,3,4,6 picks in the next draft?

sn2.gif
Matt Mosley: It's not like they've been great in the second and third rounds with offensive linemen over the past few years. Let's see. Third-round pick James Marten from 2007 was released. In 2004, second-rounder Jacob Rogers was a bust and that same year, Stephen Peterman couldn't cut it. Were you convinced that the Cowboys would eventually hit on someone?

Mike(Colora Maryland): What do the Eagles need to do in order to pull themselves out from the bottom of the NFC East.

sn2.gif
Matt Mosley: Mike, you need a game plan that doesn't bog down after the first 15 scripted plays -- like it did against the Commanders. You need a defense that doesn't let RBs like Clinton Portis and Frank Gore gash it. And you need Brian Westbrook to stay healthy. And a lot of other stuff.

Juan (Dallas): Matt, do you REALLY think T.O. will be frustrated if Roy Williams gets more attention but the Boys roll?

sn2.gif
Matt Mosley: No, I think T.O.'s exceedingly mature and would never complain about not getting the ball.

Peter (Silverspring, MD): K, gonna try to not overload on Cowboys questions. The skins corners and safeties have been money this season, even if Landry hasn't quite come out like the annointed one he was supposed to be. That being said, when does their lack of a pass rush begin to hurt them? The secondary is already getting banged up, and Carter can't consistently beat ofeenses when he is the sole focus

sn2.gif
Matt Mosley: I think Greg Blache has to keep bringing pressure from all over the field. He has to move Horton up in the box and let him come on the blitz. But this team hasn't had a great pass rush in years. Let's see what Jason Taylor can do if he ever heals up.

Riaz (Waco, TX): Will Baylor freshman Robert Griffin reach NFL potential?

sn2.gif
Matt Mosley: I've been meaning to call Baylor alum and Dolphins GM Jeff Ireland to find out an answer on that. The guy's a world class track athlete and he's one of the most efficient quarterbacks in the nation. The fightin' Gottliebs better watch out Saturday.

Luis (SB, CA): Colin Cowherd this ran a clip of Jerry Jones explaining how he asked Romo if he had velocity on his passes. He went on to say that Romo challenged him to catch some. Jerry then admitted that he does indeed have some whip to his passes. Is there video of this? I know Cowboys nation would love to see this

sn2.gif
Matt Mosley: This was not part of the open practice session. But yes, we had this story a couple of days ago.

Jon Bales (Reading, PA): Matt, Rank the NFC East QBs.

sn2.gif
Matt Mosley: 1. Eli Manning
2. Tony Romo
3. Jason Campbell
4. Don McNabb

Jon Bales (Reading, PA): Matt, Which NFC East city has the best food? Gotta be Philly's cheesesteaks...

sn2.gif
Matt Mosley: Nah, I wouldn't give Philly this prize on the account of good cheesesteaks. Couple of steakhouses in DC that I love and you can't beat the Tex-Mex in Dallas. But c'mon, we all know New York has the best restaurants. I usually start out with a burger at P.J. Clarke's and then I might end up at the Corner Bistro in the Village for another one later. Drop into Angus McIndoe's for a great meal before or after the shows. 42nd and Broadway.

Hugh (Long Island, New York): Hey Matt, Is Antonio Pierce going to be out with the quad injury on Sunday?

sn2.gif
Matt Mosley: I wouldn't assume he's going to be out. The guy plays through a lot of injuries. But if he's out, Chase Blackburn will play well. I fear that the 49ers are in severe trouble in this game.

mj in va: what was the deal with durrant brooks over derrick frost and what happened to mason from preseason

sn2.gif
Matt Mosley: When you spend a draft pick on a punter, there's a built-in pressure to keep the guy. Coaches hate admitting that, but it's the truth., It makes a team look silly to know they could've gotten help on the defensive line instead of a punter.

MS (Dallas): It's lunchtime, and speaking of food, best Tex-Mex in the DFW area? My vote goes to Blue Goose.

sn2.gif
Matt Mosley: That's old school. Used to go there a ton when I was in high school. I prefer Mia's on Lemmon.

Mike X (San Mateo, CA): Matt, Addai has a torn hamstring, and is expected to be gone for 2 weeks. Felix Jones has a hamstring pull and is expected to be out maybe longer. Is it because of their differing running styles, or what?

sn2.gif
Matt Mosley: No, not their different running styles. Addai probably has a slight tear. I'm sure it will be a lingering deal. Teams tell you what's going on with injuries, but they don't get real specific. Maybe Felix is more banged up than anyone has told us about.

Ken (Boston. Just for school tho i love NY): Hey can you just mark my words hear that when Coughlin smartens up and uses Bradshaw more he'll make HUGE plays for the G-men...Let Hixon do Kick returns too its not like he gets the ball that much at WR

sn2.gif
Matt Mosley: Got ya down...Guys sorry to cheat you eight minutes, but Mike Sellers of the Commanders just called me for a story. You've been wonderful as always.

I think a Q&A w/ some guys from this board would be more interesting and would provide me w/ more insight than Matt Mosley would.

I really think you should know what picks that the Cowboys have and don't have before making an opinion, but thats me.

Surprised he put Jason Campbell over McNabb. I hate the Eagles but I think McNabb is still a franchise player. I don't think his scrambling offsets the inaccuracy anymore though. So maybe he's right. I would actually rank Eli over Tony right now based on one thing. Turnovers. Until Tony learns to protect the ball he's gonna have a big hole in his game. Eli is nowhere near his talent otherwise.
