IRVING, Texas -- The middle linebacker typically relays the signals to the rest of the defense. Then again, the starting middle linebacker typically isn't coming back from a 20-month layoff from football and has practiced with the first-team defense more than a handful of days. The Dallas Cowboys have a unique situation with twice-retired Rolando McClain entering the season as the starter at middle linebacker. Justin Durant, who will start on the weak side despite spending training camp in the middle, will call the defensive signals, partially because the Cowboys don't want to put too much on McClain's plate.
