ESPN: Michael Crabtree going to San Francisco to reopen contract talks with 49ers

05:10 PM
Is the ice thawing in the contract dispute between holdout WR Michael Crabtree and the 49ers.
ESPN reported that Crabtree has traveled to San Francisco and expects to reopen contract talks with the team. The 10th overall selection in the draft, Crabtree is the lone first-rounder who has not signed.
Deion Sanders, an NFL Network analyst with ties to Crabtree, said on the network last night that Crabtree might be thinking of joining the 49ers. "Crabtree may be on his way," Sanders said, via PFT "I'm just saying."
Crabtree's advisors, balking at the 49ers' contract offer, have said that the Texas Tech product would consider sitting out the entire season and re-entering the draft.
The 49ers, who beat the Rams 35-0 on Sunday, have gotten off to a 3-1 start without him. Crabtree would have to sign by Nov. 17 to be eligible to play this season. -- Sean Leahy

He'll be signed within the next 2 days unless the negotiations are hostile. Pardon the pun.

If I were the 9ers, I'd tell him to take a flying leap and then trade him for whatever I could get next spring.

They are playing good ball without him. Send him to Cleveland.

I think Deion Sanders has ties to MY NFL contract that I don't even have...who isn't he associated with? I wouldn't take a word he says to mean anything but name dropping. That's his style. I've heard an awful lot about how Crabtree hasn't talked to the niners lately, so that makes me think he's gonna get signed, he's got over a month still. The man can't possibly think he's going to get more money by re-entering the draft. He's gonna be a later pick for sure if he doesn't play anywhere, and maybe he's thinking he will go rip up one of the independent leagues? Also not ever gonna make him higher then 10...it's done, every crappy team already had their chance to take him. Especially since he now seems like a pain in the ***. He'll sign or this could end up being one of those ESPN classic countdown dumbest athletes ever kinda things cause he's gonna lose a ton a money if he DOESN'T sign.

I wonder if were gonna see a sign & trade?

That would be legal wouldn't it? I know the 9ers can't trade him until next spring but if he were under contract they could dish him couldn't they?

Jerry is definitely making a move on this...............

I don't think so...I guess it's entirely possible. I don't think Jerry is making a move on anything these days, but if it were to happen I guess I would be a fan. I wasn't around for any of the debating on Crabtree's NFL ability, but I was selling it as a top 10 talent. He dosen't have elite speed and I really soured on his "upside"(in the NFL) after it was discovered he was 2 inches shorter than he had been claiming(he's not quite the 6'3 and a half he said he was, more like a flat 6'1)...He was a late first rounder to me. Dosen't mean he won't be good,(I think he will be good) but you have to be super special to be a top 10 pick as a WR, and he wasn't prospect wise but his hype and accolades sold him and he still didn't take what he got. If he doesn't I may well claim him as the dumbest football player ever.

If they sign him then I think they could still trade him if they get it in before the NFL trade deadline. But why would anyone trade for him right now? He's going to want a decent contract size and now he's had zero time in any system, isn't in football shape, and wouldn't be able to do much of anything, at all, for a team for several weeks.

I can't see why we'd want to trade for him but I guess I've seen stranger things happen.

Deion being in this kid's 'circle' is the worst thing that ever happened to him.

Sources: Crabtree, 49ers agree to deal

After months of holding out, wide receiver Michael Crabtree has agreed to a contract with the San Francisco 49ers, league sources tell ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Crabtree will get a six-year deal that he can void to five years if he meets undefined performance clauses, a league source told ESPN's Michael Smith.

The 22-year-old Crabtree is expected to report to the team's training facility Wednesday.

Crabtree and agent Eugene Parker met into Tuesday night with 49ers owner Jed York, general manager Scot McCloughan and Paraag Marathe, vice president of football operations. The two sides had gone almost three weeks without talking.

San Francisco selected Crabtree with the 10th pick in this year's draft and could use the wideout's game-breaking ability in the passing game. That said, he has a lot of catching up to do to learn the offense after missing all of training camp.

He also sat out the 49ers' offseason minicamps and organized team activities while recovering from a foot injury, but was a regular presence for rehabilitation and strengthening workouts at the Niners' training facility.

49ers coach Mike Singletary, whose team leads the NFC West and at 3-1 is off to its best start since 2002, said Monday he would welcome Crabtree whenever he shows up to join the team.

Crabtree caught 97 passes for 1,165 yards and 19 touchdowns last year during his sophomore season at Texas Tech. He finished his college career with 231 receptions for 3,127 yards and 41 TDs.

Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.
