Cowboys' O-line strikes up the band
June 25, 2009 10:42 AM

Posted by ESPN.com's Matt Mosley

In case you somehow missed it, three Cowboys offensive linemen formed a heavy metal band called Free Reign about a year ago, and they've now signed a recording contract with Riot Entertainment.

Former Bears first-round pick and starting right tackle Marc Colombo is the lead singer-rhytm guitarist, guard Leonard Davis plays the bass guitar and guard Cory Procter's on drums. A childhood friend of Davis', Justin Chapman, recently joined the band as the lead guitarist.
Davis' wife gave him a bass guitar and an amp soon after they were married.

The guitar sat in a closet in his Chandler, Ariz., home for a couple of years until he decided to give it a try in March '08. Three guitars later, Davis appears to be on the right track.

Davis was kind enough to join us on Dallas-Fort Worth's 103.3 ESPN "Galloway and Company" show Wednesday. Here's the exclusive audio.

And for those of you who freak out every time I write about something non-football related, we also talked to Davis about the '09 season.

Heck, given the resume of the rest of the backups who else is better? After Kosier and Holland no one has play a lick except CP. Not saying he's good, but what else do we have? I guess we'll find out in the next 60 days:)

Yes, after we failed to draft any center in a center-heavy draft, it appears that we will keep Proctor. Why we decided to do that, I cannot fathom.

I think Proctor will be fine at center. He got man handled trying to single block tackles but he is good in space and on combination blocks. The guy has no buisness at guard but his skillset matches center rather well.

Proctor is a dud. He shouldnt be "twitching" his neck for any team in this league. The thought of Procdud on Rodgers, Ngata or Hampton scares me.

I agree about Procturd. He reminded me of rollerskates Al Johnson being wheeled into the QB every snap, by opposing DT's.

Why is that so funny?

show off South Park where Cartman tells Token the black kid to run and get his bass guitar

Token says he doesn't have one

Cartman tells him that all black people have a bass guitar

Token leaves, comes back the next day with a bass guitar, but says he doesn't know how to play it

Cartman yells at him that all black people know how to play the bass guitar, so Token starts playing it, and he's really good

so it's funny that Leonard Davis can pick up the bass guitar so quickly

What's it going to be then, eh?

But we don't play those teams in 2009 so all is well!

The thought of Proctor against Haynesworth twice a season is scary as well.

bass guitar is the easiest string instrument to learn.

least that's what all my band geek friends told me in school.

Teams learned last year to find Proctor when he's in the game and isolate one of their best linemen against him (see Giants) because he can easily be overpowered. If he's in the game at center, I'd expect teams to stagger their line to leave him man-up with someone like Albert Haynesworth. None of us wants to see that.

The only saving grace Proctor has is that he understands the position, and he can pull well, but he is a major liability in pass protection and, as we saw last year, his inability to slow his man affects the other linemen.

Our best bet is that Montrae Holland gains some aptitude for the position and we can send Proctor far, far away.
