The Cowboys rushed by design on 23 of their 27 first down plays Sunday (85%), the highest first down rush percentage in a game this season. DeMarco Murray rushed 18 times for 92 yards and a TD on first down Sunday. Murray has gained more rush yards on first down this season (686) than anyone else has on all four downs this season.

Tony Romo was 10-of-10 with 7 first downs on third down. The 3 failed conversions were a combined total of 4 yards shy of the first down marker.

---------------------------------

Murray dominating 1st down, Romo dominating 3rd down. Unstoppable as long as the OL holds up.

It's unreal how much better we are on 3rd down than were last year.

That's just ridiculous, pick your poison is all I gotta say.

Defenses have to stop Murray on first down, which is damn near impossible. Then If they do they have to face the best passing attack in the league on 3rd, which again is close to impossible. Murray then Romo as the one two combo is just too much for defenses to handle.

Running game, and play calling.

What's ridiculous is, even when we don't have positive plays on 1st and 2nd, we're still the best in the league on 3rd.

PASS ONLY
Conversion Percentage (NFL rank)
3rd and 6+ to go: 47.6% (1st)
3rd and 5 or less: 69.0% (3rd)

RUN or PASS

3rd and 5 or less: 73.3% (2nd)

The beauty of it is that teams know it's coming, and they still can't completely shut it down.

In the past Romo would talk about the Cowboys slow offensive starts in games being a result of feeling other teams out and finding what's working. Not this team, we are imposing our will.

Witten has been easy money on third down. Just don't throw to him on a sideline route.

Romo's conversions on third downs make you more comfortable pounding the ball on first down it all goes hand in hand.

Some of the first down passes were brilliant calls. I believe one of the TDs to Escobar was on a first down pass when the Giants were stacking up against the run. I think Dez had a big play on another one.

Wonder what % of first down plays are runs. I know it's high.

I kept telling my friend, they need to pass more on 1st down, they seem to be getting only a few yards on the 1st down runs. Predictable as I said, they need to pass a few times.
Well, after the pass I believe it was to Witten, on a 3rd in long, gave a 1st down....I kept saying...NOW, pass on 1st down, take a shot to the endzone...they did for Escobar's TD.s, perfect pinpoint pass from room, and grab by Escobar....great call, and maybe all those runs on 1st was to set up something like that.

Do it against next game, it worked very well...I won't complain about all those runs....LOL

Escobar was a bigger weapon than Cole , and I believe his non TD catch and second TD we're both on 3rd downs. He was split out wide a lot in long distance situations.

Your sig makes me believe Brown is thinking, "I was certain that record would stand."

to me the brown record was'nt as difficult as the sanders record. 14 straight games over a 100 yeards is mighty tough. it's just so difficult to do anything over a 14 game period consistantly
