News: ESPN: NFL hits Falcons with lost draft pick for tampering; Eagles cleared

The $250,000 fine is beyond laughable. The Falcons would not blink at a $2.5 million dollar fine but it *looks* better than chump change.

Atlanta did it three times and only gets a 5th round pick and a 250k fine? That's almost worth it to tamper.
Yeah, but you're forgetting something. After we botch our first or second round pick or both, we need those fifth rounders to at least do something to draw attention away.

This is ticky-tacky enforcement. The players had already agreed to new contracts through their agents, and the infraction is the Falcons talking directly to the players to arrange travel AFTER the contracts were already agreed upon. I'm not saying that the NFL should let the Falcons off the hook. But the relatively low penalty of a 5th round pick reflects the relatively minor nature of the infraction. I'm not sure what Terry Fontenot makes as a salary, but assuming he makes at least $5M per season, a $50K fine for him is the equivalent of a $650 fine for someone who makes $65K per year. And the $250K fine for the Falcons is a slap on the wrist.

Based on the available information, a slap on the wrist was an appropriate penalty for a first offense.

I'm glad those NFC SOUTH cheaters got punished, and that the NFC EAST remains free and clear of cheating

Had it been the Giants, they would actually be "receiving" a compensatory 7th round pick.

Kinda like the nfl making it “worth it” to cheat if you can win per the Patriots and Brady and the punishments
