Thursday is the deadline for the Cowboys to offer tender contracts to their 13 restricted free agents. As of Monday night, we've been told nothing has happened.

The San Francisco 49ers tendered contracts to guard David Baas and linebacker Ahmad Brooks. The Washington Commanders are expected to tender a contract to quarterback Jason Campbell.

The New Orleans Saints announced contract tenders to at least 13 players, including Irving native and former Cowboys defensive tackle Remi Ayodele.

Here are the Cowboys restricted free agents: WR Miles Austin, DT Stephen Bowen, CB Cletis Gordon, DE Jason Hatcher, WR Sam Hurd, T Pat McQuistan, C/G Duke Preston, G Cory Procter, S Gerald Sensabaugh, DT Junior Siavii, DE Marcus Spears, K Shaun Suisham and S Pat Watkins.

I think we will tender those players.

San Francisco 49ers tendered contracts to guard David Baas

Left guard David Baas has battled consistency and injury issues throughout his career. Vladimir Ducasse is a strong second-round option this April.

bet Singletary has his eye on Iupati

dang we need to trade up

thats what 17 - dang 10 spots - I figure if SF does not take him then the Steelers will at 18

I think it will be all but Gordon, Preston and Suisham.

I don't think we lose Hurd until someone beats him for a roster spot.

Our tackle depth is spotty since we don't know what we've got in Brewster, so it's smart to hold on to McQuistan for now.

And Watkins also is a core special-teammer who I think will at least make it to camp before numbers cut him.

What's it going to be then, eh?

I would add Hurd to the list. I still think the staff is fond of his special teams abilities. Perhaps even Watkins, if only at the minimum.

All it takes is a FAX / email to the agents and league.

From the desk of Stephen Jones.

Lets hope nobody goes after Miles Austin with a super-contract that we can't match if we tender him.

Agreed but I think we also tender Hurd and Watkins.

I don't think we will keep both of them, they both are extremely good ST players but Watkins in particular has not shown much other than that.

I would put money on us keeping Hurd and letting Watkins walk

Hurd will probably get the second-round-compensation tender, since that what he was tendered last year. (MacMahon on his DMN blog said a few weeks ago that the Cowboys were planning to tender him.)

That's around $1.6 million last year and almost $1.8 million this year.

Lotta dough for what looks like a career 4th or 5th WR.

Combine RW and Hurd and that's a lot of mostly dead money at wideout.

That's a reasonable price for a good, expirienced, special team player, who can also play WR. Keep resigning him one year at a time until he proves he doesn't deserve it anymore.

Trade up 10 spots for a guy who plays guard?

No.

No.

He also projects to RT according to some experts so Free LT and Iupati at RT or you could start Iupati at guard for a year or so then slide him to RT that has been done before

No.

You'd be looking at giving up a 1st and a 2nd, at least. That's just too much.

Watkins is much more valuable on special teams than Hurd...and he's had about as much production on offense :laugh2:

If it comes down to those two, I keep Watkins.

Same here. You don't want Watkins playing D, but he's very good on special teams.

Hurd won't be back.. McCluster is taking his place. ;)

Hurd had 2 good games if I recall? He made a huge play during the Seahawks game and I forget the other one but it was a dam nice game.

Yeah, not everyone has to be tendered at the first- or second-round level. Tender Watkins and McQuistan at original pick level to at least stand a chance of getting a draft pick out of it. If no one signs them, then they fight for a roster spot on the cheap.
