Unfortunately it does matter yes.

Kerry Collins has kicked Cowboy *** for a few years now, no matter where he has gone. We often start very well against him, with him looking terrible, and then we go soft on D and let him start to get his rhythm and confidence back and begin picking us apart. He can be very accurate if given time and if we go vanilla on him. I think he has like a 12 and 4 record against the Cowboys and he beat us with Raiders and Giants recently.

I say keep the pressure on him and mix it up on D. He seems to play well against the Boys and if I coached the Titans I'd put him in against us for sure, based on his history against us.

We've let this guy hurt us for far too long, allowing him back into game after game which we should have won, but then started letting this QB get into the groove.

I would rather play an aggressive game against a team like the Titans than play too conservatively. Shouldn't we be able to overcome a mistake or two against a team like this. Dictate the game, don't let teams dictate to us.

Get Collins! We owe him!

The thinking has to be that they don't want to put #10 in the fire... He could possibly be looking at a very tough day with the likes of Ware, Spears, Ellis, Brady and the Dallas Defense...

But to be honest I would throw him in now because it really doesn't get much easier considering Indy and the Deadskins follow... They have Houston after that but why wait....

Put a little pressure on Collins and play Watkins deep to avoid the deep pass and the game will be a cakewalk.

Collins record against us reflects the weakness of past Dallas teams moreso than anything that he is capable of. His surrounding cast is the worst that he has ever had. If Dallas loses this game, it will be because of Cowboys mistakes, not the prowess of Kerry Collins.

I agree to some extent about Collins beating us a result of the weaker Cowboys teams in the past, particularly 3 years back and more, except, well, didn't he beat us with the Raiders last year, one of those stupid games we should have won that ended up costing us a playoff spot (combined with a couple other dumb games). Also, didn't he beat us with the Giants the year before that. Our teams weren't that bad. Both those recent games I remember that we looked like the better team and then went soft (similar to week1 against Jags this year) and all of a sudden Collins was slipping passes right on the numbers even against good coverage. We had no pressure in 2nd half of those games on him if I remember correctly.

I know his supporting cast is a bunch worse, but we need to start pummelling weak teams instead of letting them hang in there, where they can gain momentum and smell comebacks.

I agree, put Watkins deep and Henry/Newman in tight coverage and let Roy and the front 7 loose on Collins and these guys!

I agree and to tell the truth these games scare me more than if we were facing a team like Indy. At least with the indy game I have little doubt our guys will be motivated and focused aginst Tenn where everyone is talking about this is an easy game there is a bit of fear that players will sleep walk in this game and not come out ready to go. I hope it is not the case because this is a game Dallas should win but teams don't always show up

Let's not overlook Tenessee or Kerry Collins, he's a wily veteran that on any given sunday is capable of putting up huge numbers.

Go back and reference the "sky is falling" threads from the week after the Jacksonville loss only multiply it by 10. Then expect another round of Ware sucks/we should have drafted Merriman, Carpenter is a bust, Zim sucks, Parcells has lost his touch, T.O. is ruining this team, etc...

I'll agree with the "veteran" label, but I can't go along with "wily". Collins has a big arm and can beat you if you allow the big plays downfield. He's not the kind of guy that typically picks apart defenses with accuracy, timing and great reads.

I watched quite a bit of the Tenn/Miami game. What surprised me was how well Tenn moved the ball both passing and running. They had a fumble inside the Miami 5 that hurt badly and a couple picks but for a road game Tenn played really well and deserved to win. Tenn is a loud stadium and in the past they have had good success there. It's a game we should win but we can't afford to come out flat or a team hungry for their 1st win playing at home will take it to us.

Collins beat us last year in Oakland in a game we should have won, although our pass D had not rounded into form by that time.
Oakland 4-12 Dallas 9-7

Prior to that he swept us in 2002 (One we lost by Quincy overthrowing Bryant for the TD, the other when the team totally quit on Campo)
Giants record 10-6 Dallas 5-11

In 2001 We lost once due to Clint Stoerner's 4 second half INTS'
Giants 7-9 Dallas 5-11
In 2000 We lost twice (first due to Troy's 5 ints, then cause Anthony Wright started and we had no semblance of a passing game.

In 1998, A bad Saints team beat up Dallas 22-3 (Just ugly)
Saints record 6-10 Dallas 10-6

In 1997 Carolina beat us 23-13, team ahd quit on Switzer by that point
Carolina 7-9 Dallas 6-10

In 1996 Carolina beat Dallas 26-17 in divisional playoffs( Michael Irvin broke collarbone in that game)
Carolina 12-4 Dallas 10-6

So, in the 9 times Collins has beaten us, 7 times he had the better team, a reflection more on our talent level than anything else.

The three times we beat Collins

1999 Dallas beats New york 26-18 to clinch playoff birth
Dallas 8-8 New York 7-9
2001 Dallas beats New York 20-13
Dallas 5-11 New York 7-9
2003 Dallas beats New York 35-32
Dallas 10-6 New York 4-12

So, two out of our three wins came when we had the better team Overall the better team has a 9-3 record, a .750 winning %. Coincidentally, that is Collins career record against us, a reflection of the better team winning again.

Dallas has a far superior team this time around and should beat Tennessee. I like our odds

Great Stats and research Windward! I do appreciate it.

Wasn't there one game more recently than 2002 where Collins still played for the Giants and came from behind to beat us. I thought it was in 2003. I think he had recently come out of alcohol rehab or something. Perhaps it was farther back than I remembered.

I do agree we should have a significant advantage this time around. I will hate it if we let them off easy though. One of the great things about our 90's dynasty was the intimidation factor that team had. They didn't allow many teams to feel they were in the game or able to dictate the game.

I think this team is getting close to that point. Perhaps a stabilized oline is still the only missing factor and some experience on defense.

The game where he came out of rehab was the 1998 game when he played for New Orleans (Earlier that year he took himself out of the starting lineup the week before our game against Carolina, which we won 28-20)

In 2003 we swept the Giants. The quarterback in the second game for New York was the great Jesse Palmer.

But yes, I think the team is getting close to the point where other teams fear us. We're already at the point where I think we can beat anybody.
