I was listening to one of the Sports Center Radio updates, and they said there was a rumor going around that Romeo Crennel would be Parcells' choice to be Head Coach in Miami.

PFT's been reporting it for awhile. Romeo denied it today, of course.

Why would he want to do that? Is Crennel's contact up? A lateral move, no?

Not sure, but coming into this season he was definately on the Hot Seat.

Cleveland was always one of those jobs that either runined your career or just a stepping stone job.

I think in the next few months, anyone who has ever had any dealings with Parcells, including his Korean dry cleaner, will be suggested as possible head coach/GM of the Dolphins. Weiss is next.

It just seems he's got that franchise headed in the right direction and he's finally got a QB as well.

If he can shore up that defense to match the offense, the Browns will be contenders for a few years (esp. if the QB position is now stable).

It is a lateral move based since the title doesn't change, but other things can. Miami may be able to offer more money and there are also the fringe benefits. Would you rather live in Cleveland or Miami?

For Crennel it would be a move to a team with a storied past, not just a lateral move. That's why coaches want to go to San Fran, Pitt, NYFG, Dallas, etc. Sometimes it's about being part of the heritage. The Browns aren't even in the same light as the Fins.

If it keeps him from hiring Garrett away, I'm all in favor of it.

Bill's guy? Crennel brushes off talk of Parcells

Thursday, December 27, 2007 Mary Kay Cabot
Plain Dealer Reporter

Coach Romeo Crennel was asked Wednesday about a report on profootballtalk.com that he's Bill Parcells' No. 1 choice to replace Cam Cameron as head coach of the Miami Dolphins.

"I haven't heard it and rumors are rumors," said Crennel. "Everybody has their opinion on that. I haven't heard anything about that."

But what if Parcells, the Dolphins' new vice president of football operations, came calling?

"I've got a contract with the Browns and over my tenure in the NFL, I've always honored my contract," said Crennel, who has two years remaining on his deal.

Besides, Parcells - who might fire Cameron (1-14) after his first season - would have to compensate the Browns if he landed Crennel. But Crennel reiterated on his way out of his press conference, "I have a contract."
Crennel worked under Parcells with the Giants, Jets and Patriots and won two Super Bowls with him. Profootballtalk.com said an unnamed source told the site that Crennel is tops on Parcells' list.

If I were Crennel, there's no way I'd leave a team that I'd helped build from one of the absolute worst in the league to a playoff contender. He's helped add a ton of talent to that team -- Joe Thomas, Braylon Edwards, Soljuh Winslow, Eric Steinbach, Kam Wimbley... Why would you leave that to try to start over from scratch with a disaster of a franchise?

Oh yeah... Because Parcells trumps all. ;)

I don't think Parcells would hire Jason Garrett as his Head Coach. Like his players, I think he likes Coaches who have experience and probably ones that have his same philosophy.

I don't think Crennel would leave but I wouldn't be suprised if he were re-united with his old boss.

Crennell has really turned this team into shape. The Browns are the most improved team from last year, unquestionably. I personally hope he stays there and finishes the great job he's started. I have always like the Browns.

Crennell is one of my front runners for coach of the year.

When I say storied, I'm talking about championships and number of appearances in the SB. I know the player lineage and incredible games vs. the Broncos, but those are flashes in the pan, IMHO, compared to other franchises.

I think any coaching job in the NFL is a plum job. The ownership of each franchise and how management is run is what indicates how much a coach would want to locate to that place.

One coach may not want to have anything to do with Dallas, Washington, Oakland or those type franchises because of the hands on approach that the owners take.

Other teams such as San Fran, Seattle, Giants, Jets, Tampa, etc may be attractive to a coach because the owner lets the football people makes decisions and doesn't have a hands on approach.

And then there are places like Detroit and Minnesota that managment is so inept that only the most desperate coach would want to go.

Some coaches want a place where all they do is coach while some want to coach and be the final voice in personell decisions.

I don't see Miami as some great franchise that ALL coaches are wanting to go to. AT this time it will have to be a coach that knows all he will do is coach and not have any personell decisions. It was so great Nick Saban left it after two years and he had all the control. Parcells will run it like a Big Napoleon. A coach without a big ego is going to end up there.

Dave Campo is probably available. He's completely devoid of ego.
