Sacrificial for a bad team, the ghost of Lombardi couldn't get that team to more than 3 wins.

Report: Dennis Allen informed by Oakland Raiders that he's been fired

Fox's Jay Glazer is reporting that the Oakland Raiders have informed Dennis Allen that he has been fired.
Allen's Raiders dropped to 0-4 — their 10th loss in a row dating back to last season — after Sunday's 38-14 loss to the Miami Dolphins in London.

And it apparently happened today over the phone, per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Despite Allen and the team having to spend 12 hours on a plane together coming back from overseas.

It has been widely speculated that either assistant head coach/offensive line coach Tony Sparano or offensive coordinator Greg Olson would replace Allen on an interim basis.

This was the call of owner Mark Davis. General manager Reggie McKenzie might also be on the hot seat give the status of the Raiders' shaky roster.

There had been a report by the Associated Press that Allen would be fired, but it was retracted. The Raiders returned from London on Monday but no announcement was made.

Tony Sparano to the rescue. And I still credit him a great deal for the 13-3 season. It was his scheme on offense and he called the plays.

Yep, nothing has changed in Oakland. The theory was the new GM was going to change and improve everything from the mess Al Davis left. Looks like the same old situation of no continuity or direction and they're always rumored to be leaving Oakland. Is Davis really dead? Or is he hidden in some room hooked to up to machines to keep him alive while still running the franchise?

There was a time when the Raiders had the best all-time winning percentage in the NFL. Their record was slightly better than the Cowboys. The Raiders have dropped all the way to 12th on the list. Dallas remains #2.

I can't imagine why any coach would ever want that job in that black hole. It's horrible out there.

And somehow Jerry Jones is still considered the worst GM in NFL....

True. I think there are plenty of terrible GM's that have never even accomplished what Jerry has.

But, I think it's a bit unfair to Reggie McKenzie. He inherited a disaster of a franchise that was a disaster for over a decade. And I'm not just talking about personnel, I'm talking about everything from the stadium to football field maintenance, etc.

There's a ton of things to undo. He had to get them out of a lot of bad contracts (i.e. Tommy Kelly) and didn't sign Terrelle Pryor.

Often times in the NFL, when you screw the pooch it for a while, it will be followed by an equal amount of time if not more of un-screwing the pooch and getting the team back on track.
