Why in the world would he want to come here and be a backup when he's doing the same thing at a real organization?

How about we don't have a first round pick?

Just a ploy to try to squeeze a draft pick from a QB-hungry franchise. If anybody really thinks Cassell is going to be that great outside of NE they only need to look at the players who have left there and amounted to nothing. He is a system player.

Which NE players left and have amounted to nothing?

Watch out, you're in danger of being called a Patriots fan. ;)

Per TV reports the Pats will franchise Cassell if necessary whether or not Brady returns.

Meaning he won't be going anywhere so we can stop with the will he be here as a "backup" threads.

No way you let the guy go right now esp with Brady possibly missing next year. I suppose they could trade him for picks but not until Brady proves he's back.

The guy could start in like five places...why would he come to Dallas to be a back-up?!?!?!?!?

(Even if he was better than Romo they wouldn't put him in...our staff is afraid to play ANY reserves until they have no Choice...pun intended!)

you are probably thinking of the 2009 pick we traded for roy the WR.

Did we get rid of our 2010 pick too?

Maybe we can trade two 7th rounders, Terrell Owens, Bobby Carpenter, Roy Williams #38 now, Isiah Standback, and Cory Procter for Tom Brady.

This tells me that the Pats think Brady's knee is shredded and they are not sure Brady is going to come back or not.

This might have been a career-ending injury to Brady, and even if he does come back from the injury he might not be the same player he was (see Culpepper).

Smart move to franchise Cassell, he could start for a dozen teams in the NFL right now and they did win 11 games with him.

That's right. If it's Jerry, he either gets away or gets a big 7 year $120 million contract.

If anything the Pats are playing their cards right, they will dangle that Carrot might hard come season 09 and you can bet they will get a lot for it, Brady's just too good, and Cassell while he was OK he's not great...let's not "annoint" him just yet....

Wow, this really isn't a shocker... I mean the guy is a going to get major money to be a starter whether if it's in New England or somewhere else.

Yes, we as Cowboys fans, fans of a franchise that has not won a playoff game in 12 years can laugh at an organization like the New England Patriots.

Get a grip on reality.

ah but they haven't won anything of note since Crennell and Weis left ;)

They have not won the SB since BB lost a lot of his first group of assistants. Which is a pattern with most coaching staffs. I think Landry was the only one to have a significant turnover from his first SB win to his last. BUT I am not sure how much even we had back then. That is another reason why I think no coach has won a SB with a completely different team and staff.

Cassell looked pretty good at times. Hard to evaluate someone after just one season. Brady- he will be what, 31 next year. He still has at least 5 good years left before he starts to fade- IF his knee recovers. There are conflicting reports about whether its just slow healing due to the infection or whethere there is permanent loss of flexibility and strength.
Look at Carson Palmer- he has NOT been the same since his knee.
So the pats would be smart to keep Cassell for a year just in case no matter how much it costs.
