The List: Top 5 pass-rushing defensive linemen

When great pass rushers are going well, they can wreak havoc on any offense and take even the best quarterbacks out of their comfort zone. Here are my top five pass-rushing defensive linemen.

1. Julius Peppers, Carolina Panthers: There is going to be a lot of speed on this list, but no one on it has the combination of speed, size and ferocity that Peppers has in his arsenal. It's fun watching him manhandle offensive linemen and destroy quarterbacks.

2. Jason Taylor, Miami Dolphins: He might be the best all-around defensive lineman in the game and definitely the most versatile. It's going to be fun watching him with Joey Porter and Zach Thomas as threats also this season.

3. Jevon Kearse, Philadelphia Eagles: There was a time when "The Freak" easily would have been the No. 1 pick for this list, but injuries have slowed him down a little bit. He's still one of the premier rushers in all of football, though, and hopefully he'll play a full 16-game season to prove to the naysayers that he's back.

4. Aaron Kampman, Green Bay Packers: He's one of the most underrated pass rushers in the league. He relies not only on speed and athleticism, but also his guile to get to the quarterback.

5. Will Smith, New Orleans Saints: He can stop the run very well, but his greatest asset to the Saints is his ability to rush the passer. He can get around the edge with a bull rush or a quick inside move. Tackles hate seeing him on the other side.

well when he's healthy.. it might not be hard to argue with... the guy is monster.. lucky for us he's as likely to play a 16 game season as im likely to get drafted this weekend..

on a side note.. im really surprised the eagles have kept him... i hate them but they have a smart front office.. i thought he was going to get cut this year. They pay him A LOT of money and all he does is sit on the IR..

key word: TIME... i.e. his first two seasons in the league...he has been injury bitten(thank god for us) but he isn't productive any more... Maybe Shoebel should be put there instead.

4. Aaron Kampman, Green Bay Packers: He's one of the most underrated pass rushers in the league. He relies not only on speed and athleticism, but also his guile to get to the quarterback.

"guile" hahaha...I hate Joe Thiesmann, that hack

I remember the play that ended his season against the Giants last year. It seemed like he was getting to Eli on every play. I'm definitely glad the Eagles decided to keep him. He's a leader on the defense, along with Dawkins and Trotter. Hopefully he'll be healthy next season and Bunkley/Howard get their stuff together.

why isn't Aaron Schobel on the list? he's only averaged 11 sacks these past 4 years, replace Kearse w/ him

hell, I'd put Derrick Burgess and take Kampman off the list as well, as he's had double-digit sacks for the past 2 years, compared to Kampman's 1

See bolded.

yep...pretty much says it all

Kearse hasnt been an elite (or even good) player since his 2nd yr in the league...since then he's been living off the hype of rookie yr

Where are Dwight Freeney and John Abraham? When healthy Abraham is as good as anyone at rushing the passer.

Thats the 1st thing I thought.

If Freeney isnt 1 or 2 on your list it loses all credibility.
