The injuries to this year's draft class are well documented for the Cowboys.

Linebacker Jason Williams, the team's first selection in the third round, suffered a sprained left ankle in the third preseason game and was inactive the first three games of the season.

Williams also suffered a slight setback as he rehabbed from injury. He played well on special teams at Denver on Oct. 4 but was just OK last week in Kansas City.

"I think he's well now," coach Wade Phillips said. "He's got great speed. He's faster, just real fast, and he's working at it. He's coming along. I thought he was coming along real well right before he got hurt."

Just a shot, but with JWill's 4.5ish speed what about letting him work the slot as WR? Dallas could trade Crayton and free up a roster spot.

WHAT!!!!!???? My goodness I hope this comment was a joke!!! You do realize we have a WR waiting to play that can man the slot that runs 4.3ish speed that can ACTUALLY play the position of WR

Or was it once again a case of playing someone who should have had at least one more week to rehab?

Bobbie probably won't be here down the road [next year] to get challenged. For some reason I think we go LB again in the draft, over WR.

well enough to play in the nickel?

I doubt the coaches are even trying to get Jason Williams in on the nickel right now.

He's already learning a completely new linebacker position and scheme from what he did in college while also adjusting to the NFL game in general.

As long as Williams is active, it will be for special teams purposes primarily and as emergency depth.

Yeah, he's pretty raw. Next year I expect him to replace Carp though.

I'll be happy when Bobby Carpenter (Ken Hamlin & Flozell Adams, too) are ex-Cowboys.

If possible, what I'd like to look at next year on the nickel is Jason Williams replacing Bradie James and Stephen Hodge (if he recovers from micro-fracture sx.) taking over Carpenter's spot.

Williams is a much better athlete than James, who is much more effective playing forward instead of in space. Hodge is a natural for the nickel with his college background in pass defense, I really hope he recovers and gets to play for us.

You are most likely correct about Carpenter being kicked to the curb after the season.I don't know which way they will go in the draft next year,I think it will depend on whatever coaching staff is in place.I believe that this team has enough voids that you should take the "best player available" though.

Flozell Adams is on the down slope and Doug Free is completely unproven.

We have an enormous need for a stud left tackle, trade up if it's necessary.

We need a true free safety who can compete for time with Mike Hamlin after Ken is kicked loose.

A nose tackle would be nice to find, as would a guard/center.

While I agree that Adams is on the decline and Free is an unproven commodity I don't think you want to mortgage the farm to draft a player that might or might not work out. This team has enough holes that you take the BPA approach, especially when you consider that this team has not had the best success rate when drafting for need (ex. LaFluer,Ekuban).
