Thus far, this week has been epic. A member of the media attacks the team's head coach. The players are responding to that attack. The media doesn't appreciate the players reaction and some fans believe their responses should be redirected in other ways, such as winning games, etc.
It's all good, but at its core, the players' reaction has absolutely nothing to do with what neither the media nor the fans think. Certainly, everyone (I think) outside the team hopes that their current melodrama will have positive effects on the win column, but the players aren't considering that either.
It may simply be hard for some to accept. Heck, some will not accept it at all and think up other pro or con reasons for squeezing more drama they personally believe is important out of DennisGate.
What's happening now happens all the time in life. Someone talks about another person in a fashion that isn't appreciated by those who work with that person or live with that person or share some type of relationship with that person.
Those people become pissed and come to the defense of that person. It's not complicated. Outsiders (like we the fans) feel they should react in certain ways which we think is best. Or not at all.
Newsflash. They only care and think how they are feeling within that moment. They're human. Many are wealthy or semi-wealthy, but all are still human like every other person. Are they taking one second to stop and think what you you or you think is the best course of action? Hell no. That's the simple reality of the whole situation.
Don't like that particular truth? Nothing wrong with feeling that way, but if anyone thinks the players care how our synapses are firing, that someone is only fooling themselves and it ain't pretty.
This week, the players are going through their usual routine with a little spicy soap opera action on the side. On Sunday, they will play their latest opponent. Speculation will continue well past this game whether players defending their head coach was a good or bad thing. The media will slice away another pound of flesh for ratings and viewership sake. Fans will light up message boards with the latest quirk to add fuel for the fire. And the players?
They'll be thinking about the Saints... unless someone else who has observed Phillips for three years believes he'll respond in an atypical fashion. That's stupid, but hey? The media has to make a living too.
