ESPN came up with a CFB Future Power Rankings that was somewhat interesting.

I'll attach it, but it does require ESPN insider to read...so I'll post the scores too.

http://insider.espn.go.com/college-...gs-projecting-top-25-teams-next-three-seasons

The rankings only look forward for three years and are based on the following criteria:

Coaching (27.5%)
Current Talent (27.5%)
Recruiting (15%)
Title path (10%)
Program Power (20%)

Here are the results:

  1. Alabama (SEC)__98.05
  2. Ohio State (B10)__88.65
  3. LSU (SEC) __ 83.7
  4. Florida (SEC) __ 79.95
  5. Michigan (B10) __ 79.4
  6. Notre Dame (Ind) __ 78.0
  7. Florida St (ACC) __ 77.85
  8. Texas A&M (SEC) __ 77.8
  9. Georgia (SEC) __ 75.0
  10. Stanford (P12) __73.3
  11. Oregon (P12) __ 72.85
  12. Texas (B12) __ 72.7
  13. Clemson (ACC) __ 72.05
  14. Oklahoma (B12) __ 68.65
  15. South Carolina (SEC) __ 66.65
  16. Louisville (ACC) __ 66.4
  17. Oklahoma St (B12) __ 65.15
  18. Miami (ACC) __ 61.2
  19. TCU (B12) __ 61.15
  20. Virgina Tech (ACC) __ 61
  21. North Carolina (ACC) __ 59.9
  22. UCLA (P12) __ 59.8
  23. Auburn (SEC) __ 59.3
  24. Baylor (B12) __ 59.2
  25. USC (P12) __ 59.15
They say 5 teams that just missed were Ole Miss, Mich St, Boise St, Tennessee, Washington

I think that it's OSU's to lose. They have a ridiculously easy schedule, they have a huge conference backing that will keep them on top, as long as they are winning, and they have the best team, by far IMO, in the Big 10.

I think the SEC is down this year and I also think that the Big 12 and the PAC 16 have no power schools that are good enough to challenge for the #1 seat, if OSU goes unbeaten or even suffers one loss. To me, this is almost scripted for OSU. All they have to do is win games and they really should be able to do that. They have a tone of returning starters and nice talent coming in.

Again, this is a futures power ranking and not a 2013 poll.
It projects each program over the next 3 seasons.

BTW,
as for the 2013 season only, this will be the last that has a final two teams to determine the Champion.
Next year it will be 4 teams.
I'm hoping it's more than that in the future.

Also, by conference:

SEC = 7
ACC =6
B 12 = 5
P 12 = 4
BiG = 2
Ind = 1

That's fine but my point on OSU still stands. It's theirs to fumble away IMO.

I have some cousins and friends who went to THE Ohio State University. Love my realtives, but they sure can be obnoxious about their Buckeyes.

Urban Meyer was a great hire though.

No doubt. OSU could not have come away from that whole Jim Tressel scandal smelling any better if the had written the ending themselves.

And yeah, I know exactly what you mean. Ohioans and Ohio State can be pretty over the top but hey, I'm a Texas fan so I too know about over the top fan support.

:)

How long will OSU have Meyer?
He's had serious health concerns and never stayed anywhere long. He has some Jimmy Johnson in him.

I wouldn't rate OSU overly high for futures until I know that.

As for 2013 with 1 loss they won't make the title game. The rest of the schedule is wayyyy too soft. They have to go undefeated.

I'm not even sure they can make it undefeated if there are 1 loss SEC/Big12 teams to battle for overall points in the system.

I'd only add the # of members in parenthesis.

SEC 7(14)
ACC 6(12)
Big12 5(10)
Pac12 4(12)
B1G 2(12)

The "futures" is only 3 years out.
Plus, Meyer is from Ohio and now has his dream job. I suspect he stays there 3 years.

Other than that, I have no skin in where the finish this year or next.

Is that his dream job or is the NFL?
He's already won NC so not sure how much he feels he needs to accomplish at OSU except maybe winning 1 as a Buckeye.

He masterfully handled last year but his team was an afterthought as they were ineligible for everything. A couple good classes is all they have thus far. Not really enough for me to label them a powerhouse like Bama who has 5 or 6 top classes consecutively and a coach who hated the NFL.

I also dont trust talent north of the Mason-Dixon line!!! lol.

They did have a giant gap between them and Bama.

I may have put a few other teams ahead of them...LSU, for example.
The ease of "path to the title" helped them in this ranking.

He's not going to the NFL. He's had plenty of chances and never shown any interest, at all. Besides, he can make more money at OSU then he can in the NFL with a lot less stress. As you yourself pointed out, he has had some health concerns. How wise would it be to go from a made in the shade gig to an NFL job?

Not going to happen IMO.

This is wrong.

It all depends on when the lose might be and to who the lose comes from. While their schedule is fairly easy, they still have the Big 10 Schedule, a Big 10 Championship game and if they win that, the Champion of the Big 10 is an automatic bid to a BCS Bowl Game (Rose Bowl) at worst. At best, which will happen, they get a Bid to the NCS Game. The Big 10, unlike conferences with less power, can hold their own against the SEC. If the loss is not late in the year and against a big time program, then yeah, I think they still could have a good shot but I do agree, it would be better if they just won out. Their schedule would allow for that.
