Establishing Dez was a huge step toward the playoffs

As good as Dallas' running game was, (and it was a one-dimensional offense that reaped huge dividends), it was high time to establish a dominant passing game. I only wish they hadn't let off the gas, and had given Dez the ball more than one quarter.

But now, any team that plans for single coverage on Dez is doomed. DC's have it in their minds to always give him extra defensive attention while stretched to stop the run. That will leave open receivers running free, Escobar, Hanna, Beasley, Williams, and a guy named Jason Witten. If the offense takes careful stock of the first defensive looks they get, they'll know which method the defense is committed to. From there, it's just roll downhill on them, nonstop!

And keep the defense off the field, fresh, and ready to manage just a few punts from the opponent, that's all Dallas needs to have a chance.

Can you imagine how different this season would be if the Steelers hadn't jumped in front to get Shazier, and force the Cowboys to "settle" for Zach Martin? Would Dallas have still picked Hitchens in the 4th round? I think that the Steelers jumping ahead to remove LB from the first round wish list gave a huge boost not only to Dallas, but also to the value of the running back position in the NFL.

Next year's draft, there will be a ton of O-lineman and running backs picked in the first and second rounds, with running backs gaining value over the next few years. This, as the copycat league that is the NFL decides that running the ball is important again, thanks to Dallas' offensive dominance. There's very few good reasons, apart from injury, that the Cowboys don't make the playoffs, and wear their opponents out with a steamrolling rungame, now balanced with a fierce passing attack. Congrats, Dez, if you had 2 more catches, you might have had a 300 yard day!

As other teams may pick OL & RB in the draft. That leaves more defensive players for us to pick from.

As sorely as Dallas requires another one more DE to improve its passrush, I really hope the run on o-linemen reaches record-breaking proportions in the next draft. There shouldn't be any shortage of DE's in 2015, either.

Agreed. I noticed we moved Dez around a bit more against the Jags. Hopefully that trend continues. I still think this offense is sorely lacking a burner at the WR position.

You don't think Terrance Williams is a burner? Come to think of it, I've not seen many catches from him that were not contested, he's been a successful technique receiver, and by the way, I think that contested catching drill they've been doing is the secret sauce of the offense. I love the idea, though, getting a track superstar with above average hands would be nice as a role player. For the offense this year however, successful WR's must have blocking credentials that are not a liability in the ground game.

Beasley's been great as a 3rd down WR, but I agree, having a track-star occasionally take the field would require a second double team, just because of the speed factor alone. Trouble is, those guys tend to be first round picks.

dez, much like many elite wr's is best to get him going early. dez has the ability to not only make great catches, run after the catch, but i think his emotional leadership gets the whole team fired up and going. i think thats one of a few things that cost us the skins game. i suspect next time out we get dez going early. i also noticed yesterday we had hot routes ready for every blitz. most were with witten but that is something we missed against the skins

I want to see this offseason being a lot about putting some talent on the defensive side of the ball and I have no issue, at all, with continuing to bring in quality O-Linemen.

Weeden tried establishing Dez last week. Outside the play-calling, he just sucked terribly at it.
