Ex-Cowboy Tony Casillas Calls Out Jerry

I am not sure it will reach Jerry's ears and I'm sure it won't matter if it does. But former Cowboys DT Tony Casillas had this to say in an interview on Fox 4 in Dallas:

"How close are you, Jerry?," Casillas asked. "You're 7-9-1. We saw that Giants game. They didn't play to win. If you're playing for the fan base, then try to go out there and win a game against the Giants and win against an NFC rival division opponent. To me, that's showing the fan base, we're still going to play. We're not going to surrender and throw up the white flag. To me, I just don't think that sits very well with the fan base."
Funny thing is it does. How many threads have been made about the best thing to do is lose to get a better pick.

The Cowboys should have started the backups from the beginning. Having the starters play and then quit when we're losing looks weak especially after the way Dak and Jerry talked all week. Losing a meaningless game was always the best solution.

I was very happy with the loss.

Here's what I know, had Casillas never been a cowboy, he's still going to be thought of as a bust, we don't win 3 rings quite possibly, and once he got to Dallas, Jimmy turned his career around along with Tony himself, and proper coaching from Dave Wannstedt and others. Today, Tony is viewed as a non bust. He was tenacious. We had Chad Henning, him,Lett, Maryland,Jimmie Jones and others. All were studs. My God, we were 4 deep on the interior. Tony was instrumental and almost forgotten. Anyway, he wears his heart on his sleeve. I can tell he's still a helluva Dallas fan lol. Wants to win. But we needed to drop that Giants game.

Agreed

Casillas is wrong about one thing.

It was smart to not win that last game.

I think Casillas has a touch of CTE bc the Giants game was literally meaningless. There was nothing to fight for other than a better draft pick. As a fan, I could not care less about a meaningless win over the NYG in week 17.

Uhhh yeah I typically like listening to Casillas but uh.....I expected him to make a point about the last 30 years....he's referencing the Giants game in which we needed to lose?
Actually the article highlighted what Casillas said in passing about the Giants game.

The big takeaway is Casillas calling out Jerry trying to sell a 7-9-1 team as "close".

I would normally agree with Tony. But on this Jerry was correct. Losing this game helped us big-time. Big difference picking 12th and 20th rather than 3 or more spots down the draft board. Nobody will remember that last Giants loss if we draft well
Ya, not mad we took the loss.

30 years of futility and that's the worst thing Tony can come up with? They sat the starters in the 2nd half? That's one of the best decisions Jerry has made, if it was Jerry, in many years. Normally he goes out and wins those meaningless games. As fans, we hate losing but in this case we will cherish that loss on draft day.

BS I wanted them to lose - helps with the draft - fans are smart enough to know

Well said!
By playing backups in this “practice game”, Jerry was finally playing for our future. This was a smart move by Jerry. He usually try’s to win these “practice games” at the end of the year.

GB losing in the Wildcard game helped too!

Look at KC. Did they go all out to win “practice games” after they were out of the playoffs. Hel_ no!!!
They are one of the smartest organizations and they played for their future late in the season.
Too bad Jerry didn't put backups in several of the games before the last Giants game. We could have had a top ten pick.

not surprised you fail to understand

Any moment now the usual suspects will be here to bad mouth Tony to defend king Jerry.
If CD Lamb tore his ACL in the 4th quarter trying to win a meaningless game in week 18 against the Giants who would you be bad mouthing?

meaningless game in week 18
If he had tore it in the last 6 games it would have been meaningless games also ....... because the team is bad.

So i guess we only play our good players when we are sure we are gonna win a lot of games ........ oh wait.

Sorry, but dislike with Mr. Casillas. The NFL rewards losing. Once your team is mathematically eliminate from the playoffs, I say lose intentionally. Get as best draft position you can get. Winning only hurts you when you are out. So lose.
