I don't think anyone was wondering if BB "liked" Church or not.. we were just commenting on how he described his style of play.

Thanks for the article though.

The fact that he likes him so much probably indicates that you're off base with the nature of the comments in this thread. I'm with the majority that thinks it was merely a reflection on Allen and not any condemnation of Barry Church and that the 'out of control' comments were meant to be descriptive and not a specific criticism of his play at Safety. Along with this obvious earlier assessment of Church's play, that's pretty clear.

what?

Every safety this team has trotted out there the last ____ years has ranged from average (at best) to just garbage. Sensabaugh, Hamlin, Ball, McCray. Allen is right in that bunch.

Sensabaugh, hamblin, ball, mccray were never around average. They were garbage.

Will allen is an average safety with good CB's...he's definitely an upgrade.

Broaddus is not a wordsmith. I think he often says or writes things that are somewhat different than his intending meaning.

Did you intend to say intending or intended I am not sure what your intending meaning was LOL j/k

So we got two safeties that just wanna make big hits? What a strange concept.

Aggressive is good. However, if its going to result in you being out of position alot and not where the rest of the defense expects you to be, im not for it. I don't like my safeties being described as reckless, or having a former scout say they don't have much awareness. Safety is the last line of defense, and we all know how many big plays can be given up if you don't have guys back there that understand that.

The FS is the last line of defense. The SS is in the box a lot. So that being the FS needs to be less aggressive and a sure tackler.

Please, Sensabaugh had his moments and was an average safety. To sit here and act like Will Allen is some major upgrade is laughable

Sensabaugh and Hamlin were the only member on your list who had moments. Sensabaugh didn't have enough of them last season, and it really hurt us. It's no stretch to expect Allen to be an improvement if he starts. Especially if he's got Church playing with him all year. The good news is there are two talented mid-round players we have high hopes for behind him, trying to take his job.

No matter how you cut it, that's a better situation than we had last year, across the board.

I don't think he was coming anywhere close to "condemning" the play of Barry Church or anything of the sort. On alot of teams, aggressive safeties would be considered a good thing. However, with the recent seasons we've had, and the fact that our front 7 has failed to get consistent pressure for how many years now, despite reports that Kiffin will change all that this year, i'd rather have two safeties back there that are dependable and will be where they are supposed to at all times, so that we can prevent all the big plays that we always seem to allow every game. Let the talented CB's go for the turnovers, knowing that they will always have help where it's supposed to be if they dont' come up with it.

In 1992, yes. Nowadays, you need two safeties who can both cover and wrap up. There really is no SS and FS anymore.

One of them will be playing the FS, it may not always be the same guy and sometimes they may be splitting the field but one guy will be the last line of defense on most plays. The other guy, can be more aggressive.

Church is looking for the turnover and big play... I want that in my safety at times though. Playmakers aren't born they are made.

One safety can't cover both sides of the field deep. We've tried that before.. doesn't work out well. I doubt we see alot of single high safety in Kiffin's scheme. It will be alot of Cover 2, Cover 3, and Tampa 2, most likely. Both safeties will be interchangable.

It's going to be interesting to see what coverage we do run; if we can recognize some of the coverages.

I'm not certain if the safeties are exactly interchangeable but they will both cover and everyone needs to tackle well esp the DBs and more the the corners. They will put a safety in the box at times or let him sneek into it and I suspect that will be primarily Church.

On running downs, im sure we'll see a safety in the box a good amount of time.

Im not directly quoting his words, im forming my opinion of what he meant, based on what he said.

I do that a lot, too. Like for instance, a woman will tell me to take off, and I'll form my own opinion of what she meant, based on what she said. Usually amounts to me thinking that she wants me to take her home. I mean, all I'm doing is just adding a couple of words, but it's weird how it never seems to work out like I think it should.

"I know you think you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant."
