Exactly how excited should we be about WR Mike Jefferson?

WR Mike Jefferson is the guy the Cowboys signed in September 2007 to the PS & resigned again to a futures contract in Jan 2008. Wade Phillips recently said that Jefferson was the most improved player we have & that starting CBs Newman & Henry can't cover him.

Found out a little about him. Born in 1982 in El Paso, Texas, but attended Arizona before transferring to Boise State where he had 1 really good year. Height: 6-1 or 6-2 (depending where you read), Weight: 208. Projected 128th WR out of 289. Ran the 40 in 4.60. Profile on him prior to draft: good hand/eye coordination & did a lot other things well, but lacked average speed & no burst. Wasn't drafted. Don't know if he the same WR by same name who played in Canada & did well.

Dubious Jefferson is a difference maker given his lack of speed. I guess it possible he ran a better time elsewhere but couldn't find it. He could be a threat to Hurd particularly if he's a very physical WR with good hands rather then the slender Hurd. But doesn't appear to be a long-term option for #2 WR position & Crayton is safe at #3 since we just gave him a good contract late in 2007. We'd do better to hope for Stanbach success (he does have better speed).

Hope Stanbach can contribute this year maybe in specific plays to take advantage of his speed/hands (?) but it more likely any major contribution he makes will come in 09. Maybe at least 1 of the undrafted rookie WRs we signed can make the team/PS. We'll know more in TC. We'll also know a lot more about Terry Glenn since Sherman said he expects Glenn to play/participate in mid June minicamp.

All in all, we could easily end up with the same WR group we had last year although the addition of Felix & Bennet might have interesting effect and firepower both our passing & running games.

Perfectly said.........if T.O. is healthy......we are fine....if he gets injured......I am sick! The season will be over.

Have you Zoners heard of 9 man fronts......Barber and Romo will get pounded
