Hoping he can use his freakish range and jumping ability to be like MD 26 back in the 80's.

Just hoping he can tackle half as good as Michael..

Having Orlando back and moving Byron to FS might just make our secondary fun to watch this year.

I remember Michael being such a great FS for us during my teenage years. He was the ringleader of Thurman's Thieves in my opinion.

He played TEs well last year. Seemed to play almost every position in the 2ndary - which didn't help him lock down a specific role, but might be the best 360 training for free safety in the long run. Has to have more football smarts than our entire safety group combined.

Yes sir..he basically shut down Gronk ..

that's one of the best things i liked about Michael was his ability to shut down tight ends even playing at FS.

I believe the biggest benefit for him/us playing Safety.. Will be the ability keep his head forward, read the QBs eyes, and react. Take in account, outside the QB position, secondary positions are possibly the hardest position to translate from college to NFL.. As a rookie, Jones did a hellava job. Id hope to have seen more turnovers, but I have to realize opponents didn't have to take many chances against us last year. Our offense is going to change that. Throw in a healthy Scandrick and improved play by Morris.. I'm very excited to see what these guys can do this year.

Think about it -- it's been ever since Darren Woodson starred in our secondary that we've enjoyed a FS who excels in pass coverage.

That's really an absurd length of time for the Cowboys' team to be as vulnerable as they've been in pass coverage at the FS position.

If Byron Jones manages to be anywhere nearly as productive as his talent indicates would be possible, our secondary should be fine.

Jones at FS can help in many ways. As been said many times. I know I say it often.
Jones as a true FS, allows Church and Wilcox to play a true SS. This was the plan from the beginning if Mo came about from his injury and was able to be a decent CB.
I know many hate Wilcox. But I am willing to see what he and Church can do as true SS now.

This also allows Carr and Claiborne do their jobs better. And if all that allows the DL an extra second or two. Thety can get a better pass rush, and possibly even more sacks. In which with better DT play, stopping the run better, allows the LB's to do their jobs better.

I am not saying the success of the defense all lays upon Byron Jones. But it sure can make a difference.

Me too! One of my favorite draft picks since dez. I think he can help make up some gap in the secondary from the lack of the dline's pressure.

I think Jones and Heath can turn the safety position around for us this year. Both are fast and athletic. I see Church as the nickle LB ala Bill Bates in the early 90's.

We need to be able to flex better between man and zone coverage, so the QB doesn't get that early read and be able to pre-plan where he is going with the ball

If only people would stop bringing up his vertical like it makes any difference.

The problem is that a free safety rarely covers tight ends, in any scheme. They're taking away what he did best.

As bad as Wilcox is in coverage, he's even worse at tackling. He is not SS material IMO.
