Expect to see more quality role players in fa over stars!

I think they sign at least 1 top star guy
I think the only way we get a star guy is if we trade for one. This has been a method the front office has shown it is willing to use while it hasn't signed a free agent star guy since 2012.

I am expecting the Cowboys to be far more aggressive in fa this offseason, but don't think they will be hunting star type A free agents. With so many positions to address and a new defensive coaching staff in place, expect them to target more role players who they have coached in the past:

CP-Eagles, Broncos, Packers
Ansley Passing Game Coordinator-Packers, Chargers
Ryan Smith DB Coach-Cardinals
Dixon DL Coach-Vikings/Broncos
I think in general teams rarely let stars leave in free agency unless they're on the down side of their career. However, teams end up paying pretty good players like stars in free agency.

For the Cowboys they could probably plug in a few average free agent acquisitions and maybe 1 good one and wind up with a much improved defense. Their strength is at dt and if Overshown stays healthy could become a star. In the secondary I'm not as down on Bland as some and think he played very banged up last year. We'll see how he rebounds this year.

You build your stars through the draft and use fa to fill in the gaps. The first thing that needs to happen is move on from some of your in house players that don't fit their long-term plan, then you use fa to upgrade the overall talent. Use those 2 1st rd picks to land impact stars.

That's what they usually try, such as Zimmer bringing in Kendricks and Eberflus bringing in Sanborn. Solomon Thomas also was a Whitecotton guy from his days with the Jets.

The method isn't new to this team. The question will be the quality they are allowed to shop for. If it is vet minimum FAs or just above that, then that means more players who either haven't accomplished much, are coming off injuries or are nearing the end of their careers.
I think aspect is going to change this offseason. They will look for more mid-tier players then bottom fishing on 1yr show me deals. Now us fans, need to see it to believe it after years off non-activity in fa. We will find out next week if this was just talk or not.

I like Leo Chenal a lot. Think he could turn into a Baun type signing here

Good. I'd rather have multiple good players than 1 expensive good player. There is no 1 single player available who can transform this defense.

Signs and recent movement says otherwise but I get why your hesitant. They've already traded for 2 stars. Maybe they trade for maxx. But so you don't think they sign any one of these star LBs or DBs for the new DC!? Lol

Did we for the last new DC or the one before that? Last year, we gave Eberflus Murray through a late-round trade and Sanborn through free agency. What makes Parker different than Eberflus or Zimmer, to whom we gave Kendricks on his last legs (which is why we could get him for cheap).

I think trading is the only route this front office has shown that it will use outside of the draft and cheap FA.

Right. We'll see. I just don't know how fans can expect it to change when it hasn't all these years despite good and bad seasons, coaching changes and esp. DC changes. I mean, we have gone through Kiffin Marinelli, Nolan, Quinn, Zimmer and Eberflus and continued bottom fishing, so why do we expect our FA philosophy to change with Parker.

Im talking this recent search and hiring the young guys and letting the staff actually pick

I really think Jerry's incentive is to prove everyone wrong that he made the right decision trading Parsons away.
