OXNARD, Calif., Aug. 3 (UPI) -- Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott could own the most important hamstring in the NFC east this preseason.

That's why the Cowboys aren't taking it lightly with it comes to managing his latest injury. Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones told reporters Wednesday that Elliott will miss "some time" with a sore right hamstring. Jones did not have a "definitive timetable" for Elliott, according to ESPN's Todd Archer.

I heard on the radio that he was in the worst shape out of all of the current RBs in practice so maybe they are telling people it's a hamstring but really they are just going to focus on his conditioning.

Why not just focus on conditioning?

Rookies need all the reps they can get. I doubt they are just trying to work on his conditioning. It sounds like he tweaked it and they are playing it real safe. A slight tweak can become a tear if you don't give it time to heal.

They did the same with Dwayne Harris in 2011. He was out of shape and got cut over it. Not that it will happen to zeke but they never told anyone that is why they cut harris.

Harris was on the postgame show after his first game ever against philly and he said Garrett came to him and told him what he expected and what kind of shape he was in...they cut him, put him on the practice squad and he got into shape.

Kind of shocking to think zeke is not in good enough shape however.

that's the first i have heard of this. so tweaking a hammy just sets him back even more.

But why the need for a cover story? If a guy isn't in shape, he isn't in shape. Just say so. I see no reason to try to protect these guys, and I have no idea what they're even protecting them from in the first place.

Sit out a bit until you're in shape. Try not to be out of shape. Seems pretty simple and no need to fabricate soreness or injury.

Reported as not serious so not worried

Any amount of time this rookie misses is an issue. Especially with Romo missing time because he is old. If this kid is going to hit the ground running and help get us off to a good start and make the playoffs then he needs to get out of the gate fully healthy and fully prepared. These hammy things can also linger. Still agree its no biggie, but all these things add up.

Because he had been labeled as the savior with a great work ethic by the FO

Rookies with great work ethic don't come into camp out of shape

He should have been in shape just from dodging and running from his crazy ex-girlfriend!

It's just what the radio guys on 105.3 said.. Could be total bs so who knows really.

I swear some people in here must have amnesia. Every time the Cowboys report something as "not serious" we know that means they will either miss a decent amount of time for they'll play hurt only to have surgery on said injury after the season

No Idea. I would imagine Garrett is smart enough to understand that anytime someone sneezes on this team ESPN reports it on National tv.

The falcons had a player apparently rape two women who they had to kick off the team this morning and espn has not mentioned it once, not once. Just like the brandon browner story.

Yet espn mentions Hardy and gregory everyday. Or if romo is fat.

so maybe the organization is trying to keep that coverage to a minimum if zeke needs to get in better shape. Which I don't buy to be honest, I think he just has a slight pull and they are being careful with him.
