If Ezekiel Elliott had served his six-game suspension, which the NFL issued Aug. 11, the Cowboys running back would have returned last week against Washington with nothing standing in his way of finishing the season. But Elliott continues his court battle with the NFL, getting something of an 11th hour reprieve this week.

He will play against the Chiefs on Sunday.

“Really, at this point, it’s hard for me to get down or up about this whole situation because tomorrow it could be something different,” Elliott said, via David Moore of the Dallas Morning News. “So I mean it’s really not, like I said, worth my time to even worry about. I’ve just got to trust my [legal] team and trust that they’re going to do everything they can do to the best of their ability to make sure I’m able to play ball.”

Elliott rejoined his teammates for practice Friday after the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit granted him an administrative stay. It allows him to play pending the “motions panel” considering the issue, which likely happens next week.

Although Elliott has played in every game, his availability this season has been on a week-by-week basis as his case progresses through the court system. But Elliott said he has never considered giving up his fight.

“No,” Elliott said. “This is bigger than a suspension. It’s bigger than football, them [the NFL] trying to make me something I’m not.

“I’m not an abuser. That’s not who I am. This is my name and this is my reputation. This is something I’m going to have to life with beyond football. Every day is worth fighting.”http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.co...legal-fight-this-is-bigger-than-a-suspension/

Some here suggested that if Goodell had compromised, maybe reduced the suspension, that this would have been over. Nothing could be further from the truth.

The man is innocent. He won't and wouldn't have accepted even a one-game suspension. Nor would I. Accepting a compromise means accepting guilt, and if he's innocent, then he should be expected to battle to the very end.

I agree
This is not a minor thing and is a label that will follow him for the rest of his life
As much as this is a distraction for him and the team I cannot fault him for doing everything in his power to try and win this and I hope he does

Would be nice for Elliot to receive the SB trophy from Goodell the year he was suspended just like Brady

It would have to have been a one game suspension with clear specificity that it was for there being smoke for the parade incident and night club incident.

Go Zeke.... you may have done some immature things, but those pale compared to a non warranted lifelong reputation tag , if you are in fact innocent of the DV allegations

He should give up and let the NFL drag his name through the mud. I mean, it's his fault for dating some hottie in college that ended up being batcrap insane.

That must be true, because I read it right here, in another dimension, the... Cowboys Zone.

Bingo give him a game for cupping that woman, fine. Labelling him an abuser is the problem.

I commend this young man for this. This is BIGGER than football and a suspension. I can relate because I too was accused of something that didn't remotely happen years ago. And I won in court because I kept fighting and proved that it was all a lie. There were times where it looked bleak and had me crying...though I knew I did nothing wrong. Fight till the end Zeke! Hell with football. Fight for your name! I'm pulling for you buddy!

See, this is what I've been talking about. This is what happens to even a good kid when you hang around Prescott for a year. Now suddenly he's more important than the team. Everything revolves around him. If the team suffers, so be it. And he wants to fight every day.

Cancer? That guy is locker room AIDS.
