Rookie year for top 5 RBs

Trent Richardson - 950 yards
Darren McFadden - 499 yards
Reggie Bush - 565 yards
Ronnie Brown - 907 yards
Cedric Benson - 272 yards
Cadillac Williams - 1,178 yards

The last top 5 RB that went on to have a successful year was LT, 15 years ago. If Zeke stinks it up this year or doesn't have a big year with a decent amount of carries, you do what the Browns did, you put him in the trade block and hope a team is stupid enough to trade for him.

And if it does? Then what?

If he gets 240 to 260 carries on the season then that would be a good thing. The lead back in Dallas getting that many carries in a season has been a rare thing over the past decade. It would demonstrate a dedication to the run and a back that can handle that workload. It would definitely be a positive for the team.

I don't care about the carries, I care about the production with those carries - If he ends up not even getting 1,000 yards or a little over it, that's a Trent Richardson-like rookie season. If that happens, will that worry you?

It will only bother me if he looks outclassed out there. Trent Richardson didn't look like an NFL back his rookie season and showed little potential for the future. If Elliott shows some good things while handling a workload of 240 to 260 carries I think that will be a positive going forward. I don't expect any rookie running back to come in and gain 1600 yards. Go back and look at Emmitt Smith's rookie season. The numbers don't jump out at you, but when you watched him play you could see the potential for growth.

Smith didn't have the line we did at that point, it was year we went 7-9 and were still building. Zeke is going to be behind the best run blocking line in the league and as a top 5 talent, should be immediately ready to run behind it. Seeing the amount of late first, second and third round RBs that have come into the league and put up good or even big numbers, I'd be really worried if Zeke struggles. Looking at how terrible the NFL has been taking RBs in the top 5, recent history isn't on our side.

I think a lot separates Elliott and most top running backs that are drafted in the first round and I think that is why we drafted him at #4 overall.

When was the last time a top running back was drafted in the top 10 or even the top 20 to a team with 3 pro bowlers on the offensive line? 4 first round talents? Mind you Frederick wasn't a consensus first round talent, but his play on the field more than warrants where we drafted him and then Collins was a consensus first round talent.

I don't think any rookie running back has fallen into an offensive line as good as ours.

He also has an offense around him, so unlike many other running backs drafted in the 1st round, he doesn't need to carry his entire team. We have Romo, Bryant, and Witten here.

Going further, unlike many rookie running backs, he comes NFL ready from day 1, so there is no need to remove him on 3rd downs. This should result in significantly more carries than your average 1st round rookie running back.

Even last year's impressive running back Todd Gurley only had 456 snaps after missing some games too. Gordon had 396 snaps.

Last year McFadden had 60 percent of snaps (after missing a lot of playing time to Randle). The year before Murray had 73.8.

Good, he looked silly with the exposed belly anyway.

Everyone knows that this wasn't going to fly in the NFL--not sure why someone even bothered to write it up.
