FA Part 1-WR

many teams use te' on obvious passing downs. witten, ertz, Kelce, gronk, Vernon davis, Jordan reed, olsen, jimmy graham..................the list is long. why??????????????????? they're great route runners. not particularly speedsters.

It's the matchup and always will be more that than others like scheme. That's assuming you have a QB.

we have 3 compensatory picks in the 4th round and one in the 5th. should be able to find a competent rb among those. i'd use the higher picks for wr and lb.

I hope they use those picks to improve your draft position.

We can't draft 10-11 players and think they're all going to make this team.

good point. that could well be the best way to use those extra picks.

Especially if they parlay some of these players that clearly aren't in our long-term plans.

I think they have a unique position to really get some catalytic players.

Draft
I don’t see dez contract changing
The only real option is the draft
But that becomes complicated if you don’t full other needs before the draft because to get an elite WR in the draft I think you have to trade up which means you limit your ability to help other positions
Depends on the receiver. A guy like Sutton I think might make it to 19. I like Kirk as well and could be had at the end of the first round. We have to remember that receivers typically don't break out big time their first year

I think there will be movement on his contract. I could easily be wrong.

OTOH the more picks the better the odds of getting a real player

6-10 hits is better than 5-6

That's a huge misconception.

You have a better chance at hitting on a real player in earlier rounds.

Please revisit the 2009 draft to examine that folly in action.

I posted this long ago but gave rates of success per round per position. I'd have to look it up again but RB goes quickly but plateaus early thru the 5th...I think.

Watkins and Robinson are the only 2 worth signing if you want a legitimate #1. Landry is a headcase. We don’t need another one of those. Make a splash with Watkins or Landry and draft a WR in the top 3 rounds to replace Dez and Butler. Easy peezy.

Pryor would be my favorite no 2 receiver to come in here, and don't think his price would be to outlandish for the price. I should say my favorite, and unrealistic would be Sammy Watkins, who is supposedly getting franchised.

The Comp Picks offer very little value in moving up

You would have to trade all 4 (4,4,5,5) just to get a late 3rd

the 2009 was a terrible draft for everyone and particularly bad for us since we only went in looking for STs and didn't pick until the 3rd round

Obviously the chances are higher in the earlier rounds, but its folly to ignore the fact Dallas has used late round picks in the last four drafts to add Dak Prescott, Damien Wilson, Geoff Swaim, Anthony Brown, Kavon Frazier, Xavier Woods and Noah Brown.

All of these players are average at best.

You are posting on this page that you can't get "real players" in those rounds and now your argument is that those 7 guys are average? Was Prescott average last year when he went to the Pro Bowl? Would you seriously make a different pick if you could do that draft over again?

I’m very intrigued by Jarvis Landry. He’s young (25), durable (has played in every game all 4 years of his career) and prolific- he has averaged 100 receptions a year including 112 in 2017. And he’s caught most of his passes from the very average Ryan Tannehill. He gets open and is very reliable.

The downside of Landry is he is not a huge deep threat. He has decent speed but not a true burner.

But I do like his reliability a lot. Dak needs a receiver who runs tight, reliable routes, which Dez will never provide.

Sounds like a good fit, and an upgraded model of what we wish TWill was. Landry would be the #1, and we'd pair him (someday after TWill) with a fast guy. Completely changes the offense.

But he's going to cost a ton. I don't see us doing it.

I'm not getting excited about signing any of these guys b/c Stephen Jones has already tipped his hand. He's not interested. The Cowboys FO beleive last year was an aberration.........much like 2015. So, they are going to give everyone a do-over. The assumption is that if everyone is healthy and Zeke can manage to avoid being suspended, "glory h-0-l-e" days are around the corner.

We could all be wrong, who knows
I don’t see the leverage to get him to take a pay cut
I don’t see anyone on the roster that could replace his production
Everything could change is say Ridley slid to 19 though
Ware walked rather than take a pay cut and lee is the one that did take a cut but he had missed a lot of games and felt he owed it to the team. Dez thinks he’s doing his part
But I too could easily be wrong
