The Dallas News looks at how six time Pro Bowler Cliff Harris slipped through 17 rounds of the 1970 N.F.L. draft.

DD.comment: In recent years we've seen the sons of ex-N.F.L. superstars Howie Long, Jackie Slater and Clay Matthews find their way onto the radar of N.F.L. scouts. Don't be surprised if Harris' son, Arkansas safety Matt Harris, starts getting serious draft attention next spring. He showed up at Arkansas a few years ago as a raw athlete, with a track background, but eventually worked his way up to being the Razorbacks 4th leading tackler last season (49 solo, 57 total and 5 TFL's), despite only starting 4 games. If he can play even better next fall, as a senior, he might be talked about as a potential 2010 draft pick.

Track star safety. That alone makes me interested. I just wish he was available this year.

Yep, Cliff is portrayed as this Bill Bates type who came out of nowhere as a try-hard guy and just hit people hard, but the truth is that Harris was a great athlete. He was an outstanding kickoff returner for us, and you don't pick slow guys for that job. He also returned a lot of punts for us, and those guys are usually some of the best athletes on the team.

Looks like his son got some of that ability.

I'll be keeping my eye on him pretty closely this year during the college season.

We sure could use some Cliff Harris, Bill Bates, Charlie Waters good character types nowadays.

Cliff Harris is my favorite all time Cowboys player. I hope his son is half the player he was.

The kid showed up freshman year weighing 200lbs soaking wet. Going into his JR. year he put on 25lbs our so during the summer. The kid has heart, but from talking with coaches before last season, they said he was only their because of his daddy's name.
However, he played fairly well this past season, albeit a piss poor team this year.
Personally, the few interactions i've had with him...cocky SOB haha. In HS, some dudes were giving his brother a hard time out infront of their house..he came out drunk with his shotgun and started firing it in the air!

So maybe he has some of his dad's craziness!
