Hey guys and gals. The last 8 months have been one of turmoil in my life. In December I lost one job (due to the down turn in real estate), in January I found another job to get me by for two months, until March where I took a job making 6 dollars more an hour that I was waiting on to become official. Tuesday 7-10-07 I was just informed that the position I took in March was eliminated company wide. I live in Northeast TN, if any of you out there know of a GOOD job in this area, or within your own company please shoot me a PM and let me know. As my titile says I have three kids aged 6, 4, and 2. I had asbsolutely no notice of this impending job loss, they just showed up and told me I had to leave and turn in all of my security clearance, and that it was coprorate ordained, not performance related. Please be in prayer for my family and I.

Sorry to hear that but it might help if you told us what kind of work and what your skills are.

Wow, sorry to hear that and it's gotta be tough with three children. Good luck with finding another job.

BTW, what is your specialty? Perhaps if you could briefly state what your profession was then it might help?

Good luck.

I have a B.A. in History certified 7-12 grade, with a minor in coaching. I have held a Realtor License over the last three years. The job I just lost was as a Project Coordinator for an HVAC corporation. In the past I have driven 18 wheelers (48' an 53'). I have a well rounded background of sales/some industrial experience/manual labor/office & PC skills/ and especially a love for football/coaching (hence my degree).

Unfortunately everything in my area seems to be so political, in who you know, in order to obtain a teaching/coaching position. Thanks for your responses and asking, I was going to respond with specifics in a PM if anyone had sent me one asking these same questions. I will keep the company I worked for to myself unless asked in a PM. Thanks again. Any help is much appreciated.

Just went thru that myself. 10 years of service, bought out and laid off. Sucked.
Can't really help out in TN, but keep up with thingamajob.com, careerbuiler.com, monster.com, etc. Also look for city and statewide career web sites. They'll have job fairs and stuff and they'll keep you informed of dates and times. Apologies if you've gone this route. I don't mean to insult you. Good luck acheman, I mean that.

p.s. try slb.com...............they're always hiring and the pay and benfits are great. You would have to relocate......at their expense. Make sure your resume is good. You only get to send it in once a year.

I was laid off (along with 1500 others) 3 years ago after many years with IBM even though I had been told I was "bulletproof". It turned out to be the best thing I am now a stay at home husband and part time minister/counselor. I have time with my grandkids and take care of all the house stuff while my wife is at work.

It would have been a lot more difficult though if my kids weren't grown and out of the house so I sympathize with acheman. I will be praying for him that he finds a good job quickly.

Boy, could I write a novel on this one. I didn't even know the two poeple designated to do the actual laying off. 3 small kids and a declining industry...........not good.

It did end up being a good thing due to the employment situation now but at the time all I could muster up was wow.
