Not necessarily favourites, but recent listens include:

The Cars- Getting Through; Pete Townshend- Rough Boys; Stevie Wonder- Livin' For The City (this is a favourite); Elvis Costello- I Don't Want To Go To Chelsea (a classic); CCR- Born on The Bayou; The Rolling Stones- Sway; Beck- Paper Tiger, Lonesome Tears (both of Sea Change, an incredible album); Tindersticks- Tiny Tears; White Stripes- Fell in Love With a Girl; Roxy Music- Do The Strand; Elton John- Philadelphia Freedom; Gorillaz- Feel Good Inc.; Prince- Kiss; Talk Talk- Life's What You Make It; James Gang- Funk #49 (or is it #48? Whichever is the more famous one); Grateful Dead- Jack Straw; Lou Reed- I'm So Free

All those are worth checking if you haven't already.

Download the entire Bruce Springsteen collection. And then find some bootlegs...

Then spend the next year enjoying the greatness of the boss.

I guarantee you will be in love with Born to Run, Born in the USA, Darkness on the edge of town and the rising.

then the river will blow you away.

He is the king....

got to see him live during the Born in the USA tour in (dear God!) 1984. 15,000 voices joined together to sing, "Got a wife and kids in Baltimore, Jack..." The roof almost coming off during the opening riff on Cadillac Ranch.
Bruce reaching into the front row and pulling some girl onto the stage to dance with him. 4.5 hours of sheer exhileration.

Excellent call on the Elvis Costello song. I'm a huge fan. Favourites by him are: Chelsea; Accidents Will Happen; Green Shirt; Alison; Night Rally; New Amsterdam; Riot Act.

As for the Police, it's worth asking which version of Synchronicity, because Synchronicity II is one of the best songs ever. Baba O'Reilly is another great call. The Who just might be my favourite band.

There's something so creepy about that song, like a bad dream. Probably my favourite Police Song (Does Everyone Stare? would be a close second.)

I know, I think it's about a man leaving his family and running away, but it could be about the Lock Ness Monster too.

Then again, most people think the stalker song, Every Breathe You Take, is a love song too.

In Your Eyes-Peter Gabriel

I only like that one when a lovelorn ex plays it on their boombox outside my window.

I really blow hot and cold on Peter Gabriel. He's capable of some brilliant music (the whole Passion album, Don't Give Up, Biko) but he can also drive me crazy with his excesses. In Your Eyes is somewhere in the middle for me.

By the way, I picked up Inner Visions by Stevie Wonder on vinyl the other day. If anyone doesn't have that album, please go get it this weekend. It's that essential.
