Felix Potentially Coming Back

That's a good point, he is still on his rookie contract though so it ain't that much. He is contracted through next year, so we don't have to worry about paying him yet. If we cut his workload back right now, it would probably be better for us long term in trying to resign him later.

Its crazy Felix is only 24, while Murray is 23. Felix came in young, even though he looks 47. One thing to know is Felix is also young, just like Murray, and we can't forget that at all.

People are hating on uncle fester, but I think when he returns he will quiet some critics.

He had 115 yards rushing behind Fiammetta in the Commanders game.

By the time Fiammetta came back healthy Jones was hurt.

None of the running backs had any success prior to the Washington game (Tony's first game).

Tony Fiammetta is a clutch component in our running game.

Having Murray and Felix on the same team is a great problem to have.

It isn't like Felix is a scrub. I hope they use him on kicks and 3rd downs/screens and try to get him in the open field. He is more productive in that role and his fragile health might be hold up for a while with less contact.

I think our running game and overall offensive explosiveness is improved by getting Felix on the field.

Murray is a gem.

I don't have a problem with Felix getting his carries, but Murray has the hot hand right now, and IMO, you keep the ball with the hot hand. I don't like the idea of Felix getting carries that Murray would normally get. Wasted downs and wasted opportunities IMO.

I have a problem with anything distracting from DeMarco's groove and his growing bond with the oline. I don't care how much Felix is getting paid. 5-8 touches max.

Use Felix the way NO uses Sproles. 5-10 carries a game. 4-6 catches a game. Hope he breaks one.

Not saying he's another Darren Sproles, but that's the role he's best suited for, IMO.

You can add him on punt and/or KO returns as well.

Exactly. He needs to be used as a specialty back in the same manner as Sproles and Bush. Felix still has plenty of big play potential in him, and limiting his touches to 8-12 a game and using him in the right situations will go a long way toward getting some of that magic back.

You beat me to it. Against the Commanders, Felix had 115 yards on only 14 attempts with a long of 40 yards.

I'll just add that Montrae Holland has helped too. I rewatched the Seahawks game and he made several key blocks on Muarray's big runs.

For anyone who's written off Felix, check out the video from the Commanders game that someone posted yesterday.

Bryan Broaddus stated that Felix Jones is a more explosive player through the hole than DeMarco Murray, and he is exactly right. He described Murray as gliding through the hole and being more of a glider. Jones is the fastest player the Cowboys have on offense.

No disrespect to DeMarco Murray, who has been playing great, but Darren McFadden is a faster, more explosive player than DeMarco Murray. Jones has played with a more talented player than Murray and competed and earned his touches at Arkansas. Jones has competed to earn his touches in Dallas, too. He competed with two other backs, including one player with a new, big contract.

Jones has been out, and it looks like he will miss this game, too. However, when he comes back, Jones is going to get his opportunities to run behind this significantly improved run blocking. According to Broaddus, Jones was running hard earlier in the year, but the run blocking was just not there for him. Broaddus alluded to the Commanders game where Jones was extremely explosive, and Broaddus thinks Jones can take advantage of the improved run blocking. I agree, and I can't wait for Jones to get his opportunities to run behind the significantly improved and still emerging run blocking.

If Jones returns against Washington, the Commanders will have the 17 touch, 155 total yard game that Jones hung on them, on their minds. Jones' 13th rush was a 40 yard bomb against a 9 man front and a run blitz. Last year, Jones touched the football 24 times against Washington and hung 181 total yards on them (two games).

Felix Jones has proven to be an extremely explosive, extremely productive player in the 14-16 rush range and around the 20 touch mark.

Dallas has a nice "problem" on their hands, imso, with the emergence of DeMarco Murray.

I don't know how the rush total will break down or who will "start", but I look for Garrett to get Jones back in the double digit rush range. I think the team will be at its best when Jones and Murray are both in the double digit range. This will keep both backs fresh and more preserved in the short-run and long-run. Jones' explosive, home run ability gives the offense a very dangerous component.

It should benefit both players.

Murray had to be spelled quite a bit at Oklahoma because he wasn't the kind of back he is today so he's used to it.

Felix.. Well we know his story as the change up guy.

This is nothing but a plus for the Cowboys.

I just hope Felix still has that explosion. He looks a lot rounder now than when we got him from Arkansas.

I actually think Felix is a better player now than he was as a rookie. He's bigger, stronger and still has that explosive speed. He lacks vision between tackles but he's certainly running with more power in there.

I think it's a perfect situation having both guys healthy. I honestly don't care who gets the majority of carries. We just need to use both players and to their strengths.
