We trade down to the end of round one for a three and a four (it fits the value chart).
1. Wimbley/Lawson/Carpenter (OLB)
2. Andrew Whitworth (OT)
3. Pat Watkins (FS)
3. Todd Watkins (WR)
4. Kevin Boothe (OG)
5. John Chick (OLB)
6. Matt Bernstein (FB)
7. Steve Fifita (NT)
FA: Kurt Smith (K)
Why?
I think at least one of Wimbley, Lawson and Carpenter will be there in the 28-32 range. Tremendous value and it fills a need.
Whitworth is a huge, athletic tackle who put up great numbers at the combine. I know that we signed Fabini but he's no spring chicken. Neither is Flo, and you never know how he'll return from his injury. We lost Tucker to TB, so we need to add another OT anyway, and Whitworth is a huge upgrade in that department who will eventually start.
Pat Watkins is a freak, big and fast. He covers well and hits har, just the compliment we need to Roy Williams.
Todd Watkins is FAST, a young wideout who stretches the field. Both Glenn and TO are over 30. It's time to start getting younger at the position.
Kevin Booth is a big, physical, smart lineman, and we need a guard. With Petitti, our FA signings, Whitworth and Boothe, both the present and the future of the OL looks bright.
John Chick had 13 sacks and 19 of his 48 tackles were for a loss. He's big, 6-3, 265, athletic and explosive. He ran a 4.59 forty, has a 36 and a half in vertical, benched 30 reps and broad jumped over ten feet. I think he's a second day steal.
Bernstein is a huge mauler of a FB. We haven't had a blocker in the backfield like this guy since Moose.
We need a third NT on the roster, and Fifita is the prototype. Jeff Littlejohn is another option.
Kurt Smith's only job at Virginia was kicking off, and he did it better than anyone else in the country. 38 of his 66 kickoffs stayed in the endzone. I have no idea how accurate he is when it comes to field goals, but he's a weapon kicking off.
