The Cowboys' Jan. 3 regular-season finale against the Philadelphia Eagles remains a prime candidate for the NFL to move to Sunday prime time. The game is penciled in to be played at noon at Cowboys Stadium. The league has not designated any game for NBC's 7:20 p.m. kickoff.

Because of its desire for the final television window of the regular season to have meaningful playoff implications, the NFL will wait until Sunday night before picking a game. The announcement will probably come on NBC late in the Cowboys-Commanders game, which is also a prime time game.

The Cowboys and Eagles are both eligible to be flexed into prime time. After the Commanders game, the Cowboys will have played in five prime-time games, the Eagles in four. The maximum allowed by the league is six.

The fact that the first Cowboys-Eagles game was played on Sunday Night Football is irrelevant in Week 17. The New York Giants at Minnesota Vikings and Pittsburgh Steelers at Miami Dolphins are two other games that may have playoff implications.

A wild-card selection could be the undefeated Indianapolis Colts going for a perfect season in what is likely to be frigid Buffalo against the Bills.

Peyton and the Colts continue down the road to perfection
While Terrell and the Bills freeze in their winter of discontent

Well, if that happens then it favors the Cowboys because the Eagles under Andy Reid have not been that good on night games. Let's hope this happens.

Even Peyton Manning's run at perfection can't overcome the Cowboys brand. If that eagles game is for the division title it will be flexed.

Doesn't look like this is a possibility. I just looked at the NFL.com schedule and there is NO game scheduled for Sunday night, Jan 3, at all. Does anybody have any idea why?

I hope they leave this game where it is. I am so sick of Dallas being on SNF and having to wait all day for the game to be played. To me sometimes this is a disadvantage. I really want this game to be played at 1pm. THere's no scoreboard watching just play the game, win it and sit back and wait on other games.

There will be a Sunday Night game it is just not known who it will be
Maybe this will clear it up.

Last season, the NFL implemented for the first time in its history a primetime "flexible scheduling" element on Sundays in Weeks 10-15 and in Week 17.

Flexible scheduling ensured quality matchups on Sunday night in those weeks and gave surprise teams a chance to play their way onto primetime.

The 2007 NFL schedule will again utilize flexible scheduling in Weeks 11-17. The NBC Sunday night time slot for "flex" weeks will list the game tentatively scheduled for Sunday night.

Only Sunday afternoon games are eligible to be moved to Sunday night, in which case the tentatively scheduled Sunday night game will be moved to an afternoon start time. Flexible scheduling will not be applied to games airing on Thursday, Saturday or Monday nights.

Just as the six major college football conferences have done for many years, the NFL will have the flexibility to move the start times of games on Sundays, using a 12-day notice format.

For example, a game scheduled for a Sunday could move from a 1:00 p.m. ET kickoff to an 8:15 p.m. start, but the change would be made and announced no later than the prior Tuesday, 12 days prior.

The NFL has commonly moved games between 1:00 p.m. ET and 4:15 p.m. ET on Sunday afternoons, and the NFL now employs flexible scheduling to include one of its primetime packages of games - on Sunday evenings.

Sunday afternoon games, as in the past, can still be moved between 1:00 and 4:05 or 4:15 p.m. ET.

In Week 17, in order to ensure a Sunday night game with playoff implications, the decision to move the start time may be made on six days notice.

It is curious though. They don't even have the Sunday night timeslot listed on the schedule with teams TBD and they show 32 teams scheduled for all daytime games.

I saw that as well. I'm pretty sure they will have one they just do not know who they will show.

I wonder if the fact that we will be on SNF this week could play against the Eagles game being flexed? Can the Cowboys be on SNF two weeks in a row?

Why would anyone not want to see this game flexed?

Is it fear? Get over it?

I want to know exactly where we stand before the game is played. The last thing I want is to watch the Cowboys lose only to have have a couple of means for them to back into the play-offs.
Then go watch the Giants and Packers both win only to have my hopes dashed a 2nd time.
Been there done that.

I want to know where we stand before the game is played. If were fortunate enough to get help earlier in the day and have at least the 6th spot clinched, so be it.

If were not, at least we know where we stand.

OMT- I like the scenario of having at least a spot clinched. I believe it would allow the team to play with less pressure and perhaps perform better.

amen to this. We are excellent on sunday night football and they stink.

Plus if we play late we will know the results of the packers and giants games

I hope they don't move it, for selfish reasons on my part. It's the only game I've got tickets to and I've already booked nonrefundable flights in and out on Sunday. If it's moved, I'll be out quite a bit (for me) of money.

That, and I would rather not have the team sitting around all day with more time to think about the games implications and getting more tense. Rather play it early and get it out of the way.

we play great on sunday nights. We have beaten the eagles the last three times we played them in primetime nightgames...not that it means anything...

and to me, the later we play it the better the crowd.

If the game is for the division, we may get 95000 plus in there again like the giants game....That would be huge.

I'd like to see it moved myself. I work until 7:00 MST and it woud allow me to see most of the game on my TV rather than try to find a decent internet stream.

But the main thing I want to see, regardless of when they play, is Dallas go in and take the NFC East with two more wins rather than rely on help from a anybody. Parcells used to say that a team has to teach itself about what it is and I hope that the team has learned that they are tough when they focus like they did last Saturday and I also hope they've learned there are no gimmes in the NFL. Washington got smoked last night but they could easily come back and give us a really tough game next week.

I want to win the NFC East as well. I admit I would not mind one bit if Dallas had a playoff spot clinched this coming weekend and then face Philly for the NFC East in week 17.

if it stays at noon, it will be on FOX, with Aikman and Buck calling the game...we tend to struggle or suck when they call our games. They are the last two announcers I want to see when the playoffs and seeding are on the line.

move that mofo to Sunday Night please.....
