The Cowboys' Jan. 3 regular-season finale against the Philadelphia Eagles remains a prime candidate for the NFL to move to Sunday prime time. The game is penciled in to be played at noon at Cowboys Stadium. The league has not designated any game for NBC's 7:20 p.m. kickoff.
Because of its desire for the final television window of the regular season to have meaningful playoff implications, the NFL will wait until Sunday night before picking a game. The announcement will probably come on NBC late in the Cowboys-Commanders game, which is also a prime time game.
The Cowboys and Eagles are both eligible to be flexed into prime time. After the Commanders game, the Cowboys will have played in five prime-time games, the Eagles in four. The maximum allowed by the league is six.
The fact that the first Cowboys-Eagles game was played on Sunday Night Football is irrelevant in Week 17. The New York Giants at Minnesota Vikings and Pittsburgh Steelers at Miami Dolphins are two other games that may have playoff implications.
A wild-card selection could be the undefeated Indianapolis Colts going for a perfect season in what is likely to be frigid Buffalo against the Bills.
