Garrett was demoted as play caller offensively. That question was answered long ago.

Garrett has been riding Romo's coat-tails since the beginning.

I think Romo over-audibled. He might make good reads, but the offense has always ran smoother when the play gets off more quickly. Imagine if somebody tells you something and then they change their mind 5 different times in 15 seconds...it's easy to forget things like the snap count. And when the offense is going well, often times the last thing you want to do is slow it down. If you have a good rhythm, keep it going. Plus, we saw what Jim Haslett would do to Romo....throw different looks and see where Romo was going with the ball off those looks and then set him up later on in the game to get a critical interception.

Less is more with Romo.

I also think that if you're a heavy audible QB, you probably need to be a good short passing QB. Tough to make the right audible on longer routes. Usually audibles work best on short routes...throwing a screen against a team that is blitzing or throwing into the blitz. That's what Peyton was great at doing while Romo's strength as intermediate passes with being able to make plays on deep passes.

It wasn't until 2014 that we saw Romo audible more into run plays. He started to audible less than in the previous 3 seasons and the plays were getting off more quickly. 2007, 2009 and 2014 were the years that the offensive pace was quicker for the Cowboys and the offense was purely better.

I expect much less audibling with Dak due to his lack of experience. But also with the RPO's he really doesn't have to audible since he has the choice at the snap to either run it or throw it.

I like Elliott a lot, but I question our abilities to adjust when, not a matter of if, they crowd the box. Teams are going to be gunning for him. What he saw in Seattle was just the beginning.
This. I remember in 2014, the Eagles actually stopped the run game pretty well in both games. The first (Thanksgiving) game, they crowded the box (the same way other teams had), but it actually worked and we didn't answer. In the second game, they brought the same strategy. Romo put on a clinic and murdered them in the air.

Linehan knows what he is doing and he is far from conservative. It was quite clear when Romo went in tank last year that the conservative and paranoid Garrett was telling Linhehan and the QB's to check down. People will argue there is no direct evidence, but its obvious to me.

This year we will see if Garrett has learned his lesson and will open things up for the young QB that obviously has more poise and talent then any of the dregs we had last year.

This was evident by the way Cassel played in his first game where he actually looked like a NFL QB. Yeh he threw some INTS but he was also making plays. He was then put through JG's "process", playing scared, and didn't look the same afterwards.

My question isn't so much about audibles - I actually think Dak will be given to option to switch run plays to pass plays (or the opposite) because that's pretty basic QB stuff.

My question is whether Romo is designing entirely new plays at the line by adjusting routes, blocks, etc. - stuff that goes beyond just switching the play to another play. If he's doing that, then Dak is probably in trouble.

IIRC, Romo had two pass plays and two runs play he could audible.
