Firehawk's Newman Challenge

In an effort to find middle ground and settle the debate that is raging in like 8 different threads, here's my offer to you.

Next season, I'm going to personally record every Cowboys game and track Newman on each one. I will write a short summary on each pass play, including ones he didn't get thrown at and post it on here at the end of the season. I will include the area of the field (flats, med and deep) and the side (sidelines, hashmarks and dead middle) and who caught it under what circumstances (was it in the beginning of the game, was it a hail mary, etc...)

I will then summarize it all in multiple ways. First a general summary, he gave up X passes for X yards and X TDs. Then I will summarize it by area of the field, first distance (he gave up X short passes for X yards, and so on) and then place (sidelines, hashmarks or dead middle) and then by quarter. And then finally by receiver, by quarter.

I will also look at passes where the receiver was obviously wide open and didn't get the ball thrown his way or the ball was over/underthrown or dropped (think TO's big drop the second Skins game) and by no means is it Newman's success and include those.

I will compare him to Henry, Springs and Rogers or Smoot (depending on who starts for the skins) and we can figure out, relatively, how much better/worse Newman did in comparison and can compare him relatively. Is that fair enough for you?

I have directv with a DVR, so theres no reason why I should miss one, but be patient with me because it's going to take some time.

Until then, I will not say one more word on Newman. Does it sound fair enough to you?

Oh yeah, and I'll be honest, if Newman wasn't seen for enough of a play (as in the camera never catches him for more then a second or so), I'll write it as inconclusive.

:lmao2: This debate is too funny. Im so glad my boy if finally getting publicity even if it is this kind. There should have been debates about Newman being top 5 when he was a rookie because he was a top 5 cb by the middle of the 03 season.

Wouldn't it be easier to just become a Cowboys fan and enjoy a good season of football?

Excellent point.

Let's debate that.

I'm intelligence by trade, I derive a certain pleasure in studying people I dislike. But I do enjoy good football and the only times I enjoy a Cowboys victory is when they beat somebody who would have taken the Skins playoff spot or when they play against the Eagles (hate their fans, they are the only ones I find consistently classless) or the Patriots (stupid media darlings). I hate them both far more.

This isn't publicity! This is a bunch of guys with nothing better to do right now (speaking of which, I should get back to work...) dissecting football far too much.

Nah, I work in a vault, anyone who wants to come in has to ring a doorbell and I let them in. As long as I get what I'm supposed to get done, done; I'll be fine.

If you've got that much time and ambition, by all means go for it!

Actually, I was planning on doing this for Romo, Jones, Barber, Witten and Roy Williams on the Boys side (maybe not so much detail) and Campbell, Portis, Betts, Moss, Lloyd/Randle El, Cooley, Taylor and Rogers anyways, just to settle a couple of questions/concerns I have in my own mind.

It sounds more daunting then it is. All it takes is about an hour after the game with a notepad and a remote. Tallying it will be some time at the end of the season, but it's considerably less then I have spent so far talking about this.

Since you're researching, can you review the 2006 footage and let me know how many times Parcells dropped the F-bomb on the sidelines?
:explode:

Thanks in advance!

If I was you, I would go back and look at LeRon Landry, because Brandon Meriweather and Reggie Nelson are much better cover safties than Landry.

LeRon Landry is fast, but he had coverage issues at LSU. Taylor can't cover Glenn or Owens in your cover-3 packages.

You better hope your blitzes work, because your ends don't scare anyone. Your DTs are weak.

How are you going to generate points if Phillips sicks Newman on Santa Moss? Is that why you fear him and want to discredit him.

Dallas has proven they can take care of your running game which lost one of its best guards. Who is gong to replace Dockery? It sure didn't come through the draft.

You make it sound like Champ Bailey sucked in Washington when he was highly regarded there. Danny Boy just wanted to spend his money elsewhere.

Now Bailey is touted the best in the league. That wasn't a smart move, especially since Portis is showing signs of breaking down.
