Plus he came from the great football powerhouse Ashland.

Which produced the great history teacher/Kicker Tim Sedar.

Whatever team Lovie Smith coaches next year, Marinelli will go there and be his DC.

Lovie Smith is really the primary obstacle there. Wherever he goes, he needs a defensive coordinator.

It'd be especially bad to lose Marinelli if we're trying to replace Spencer, Hatcher and Ratliff (or any two of those three) at the same time this offseason. Ouch.

This is true but I don't think anyone is going to be banging Lovie's door down anytime soon. It's seems like teams are going in a younger direction these days, so my bet would be if we see Lovie on the side line next year it would be as a DC so I don't think he is a threat to take Marinelli away(at least that's what I'm hoping)Plus at Kiffins age there no guarantee he will be back next year and in that case Marinelli would most likely be the Cowboys DC, if not I'd say definitely the year after. (Unless we win a ring by then, and someone takes a shot and hires him as their HC but if that happened we would all be happy anyway)

Don't be surprised if he's offered a HC after this year. If he had scrubs playing that well in their first bit of action just think what the starters will do in the regular season and possibly playoffs. Wouldn't surprise me a bit to see a team or two possibly try and woo him.

I would not be surprised to see him be named DC one day but HC, I think Garrett will keep that job.

Yeah, it's possible Lovie doesn't get a HC gig next season. He'll get lots of interviews, obviously, because he's good and because of the Rooney Rule. Or he might not like the options if the Dallas job, or another high profile job like it, is unavailable. If he doesn't find the right gig, we're in good shape.

I think Marinelli is here to stay. Don't forget, he doesn't have a very good record as a HC.

I particularly like that you hear that the defense is supposed to sprint to the ball...that was on display for the guys that were in the game, Selvie being the obvious beneficiary of that teaching. Wilber seemed to benefit as well.

Marinelli and Kiffin are the real deal. I really like our coaching staff at the moment across the board

Completely agree. No way we can let him go. Hopefully the thinking at VR is he for him to take over when Kiffen walks away.

Problem is if Lovie Smith gets a job somewhere he is gone.

The good thing is we can deny him a coaching upgrade I believe.

I liked what I saw but I'm keeping that tempered by the fact that the Dolphins are in trouble on OL. So I'll definately have to see a lot more of this type of thing before i get too excited.

I think it's too soon to judge what he has done with the defense I mean we all thought that Rob Ryan did a great job at first to (Well maybe not all of us but quite a few). I do however like what I saw in this first game the players played with tenacity and anger. They ran after the ball and their motors never stopped. If that continues through the season and the defense can manage to be top 10 quality than we have to do whatever is necessary to keep him. Get on it Jerry.

I agree it's too soon to judge, but if we're going to stick with system, Marinelli would be a massive asset as a DC. I can't see him getting another HC gig elsewhere. He'd be our Jim Johnson.
