Rather trade up in the first than to give up a 1st for a wide receiver who isn't even established as a dominant player... Earl Thomas would have made a much bigger difference for example. It's a bad move.

You have to think that Cooper gives you 7-8 years. Thomas gives you 3-4 tops and he has some freaky injuries. Not injury prone, but random injuries.

I say we go oline help in round 3 and 4. The coaching staff needs to begin developing mid round draft picks
Develop linemen in the mid rounds? Like Green in the 3rd? They need top talent and you’re not going to find it in the mid rounds. I mean they already got a project on their hands as is from the 2nd last year in Williams.

That means you also get a likely 4th round comp if Cooper signs elsewhere.
The variables on things are all over.

Realistically DAL has Cooper for 2 years at very affordable then the 3rd year would be the first year of an extension and what that costs will be decided by the team but year 1's don't have to be costly. If year 1 comes in at 10M you are still talking about 3 years for 25M which is a fir better deal than Watkins would have been.

DAL is not a team hurting for bargain players. It's the youngest team in football.
They need actual primo talent.
Cooper as a former 4th overall is that.

Can he reach that potential? Who knows but even at his lessened state of this year he is a major upgrade.
It's like dating a supermodel while she is pregnant.
She may never model again but she's going to he a far cry from average.

Dallas has been dating 3s and 4s at WR.

 I like that.......

Want to know why Carr and Cooper didnt mesh?

Derek Carr is the biggest checkdown charlie in the league. He averages 6.0 air yards per pass attempt, the lowest in the league amongst 38 passers.

In 2016 Derek Carr's air yards per attempt was 8.6, and Cooper thrived.

Dak's air yards per attempt this year? 8.6

Bingo! Derek Carr is horrible. He has more interceptions than he does touchdown passes this year, including this beauty. And Oakland signed him to a $125 million contract. They have big problems.

This is a stupid reasoning to make this trade

QBs taken in the first round the last three drafts

2016: Goff, Wentz, Lynch

2017: Trubisky, Watson, Mahomes

2018: Mayfield, Darnold, Allen, Rosen, Jackson

All better than Dak with the exception of Allen Lynch and Jackson

I wonder if there is a stat for air yards just to wr/te factoring out rb's. Dak almost never throws to rb's so the 8.6 may not be truly inidicative

If there's one weak point in the draft for us it's picking O-linemen outside the 1st round.

This is true, and I don't currently have a source for that information.
Maybe in the future

But the 8.6 is indicative, right? Since he really doesnt throw to short outs to RBs then the # really isnt skewed one way or the other, but you're saying it's harder to compare him to his peers, correct?

Problem is, this year’s crop is meh.

If Herbert goes back to Oregon, it could get ugly for QBs in round one.

You have two potential first rounders (as of now, we know somebody always creeps in). Herbert and Drew Lock.
