Why did Wade PUP Brewster?

To paraphrase:

"He showed a lot of good things in OTAs"

"We think he's going to be a player in this league"

"If we need somebody (later this year) we'll at least have a guy that's got ability."

...... Hallelujah, a little ray of sunshine fer ya all this afternoon!

They really must feel he has a shot of playing this season.

If nothing else, this move gives them the option anyway.

Hey!

Rocky Dennis!

Clock's ticking!!!!

Yep, said it was an outside chance, but since he was eligible for the PUP, why not leave open the possibility.

I like the thinking but he will have to be ready to take a roster spot in week 7 or at least be a few weeks away by then to warrant not being put on IR at that time.

smart play, the option is there

btw, looks like Holland's (the guy everyone was most assured would beat out Kosier easily) days could be numbered
cuz Brewster would be the primary backup at RT, thus making McQ the swing OG/OT

For all the grief our staff takes, this is actually pretty savvy. I wonder if that will be acknowledged or not. Probably not.

This guy really looked good on some of his draft clips. Of course I'm not a scout but I did stay at a Holiday Inn last night.

....and from the unlikeliest of suspects nonetheless.

P.S. Is that a word? Unlikeliest? :)

I really doubt McQuistan takes a roster spot over Holland. McQuistan gets rag dolled on almost every play. Holland is a decent guard.

Encouraging that they at least want to keep option open for Brewster to get back onto roster later in year. How long does a torn pec take to heal, though it was an ugly injury, especially for an oline.

Brewster can do a ton of conditioning and core/leg work for next couple of months to rid himself of the remaining extra flesh/skin after he dropped those 30-40 pounds they reported.

As for Holland, I think he can backup both guard spots and I think it would be stupid without any other proven backup guards to cut him. I remain in the group that felt he looked better than Proctor at guard last year in limited snaps.

The new oline they signed could end up being back up center as well as backup guard. Free is backup LT, and possibly right in an emergency maybe. Holland at both guards. Then it comes down to a 9th oline (HIGHLY doubt it is worthwhile keeping 10). McQuistan might make it as 9th for RT and Gibbons and Bright likely on PS. I think Procters $1.5 million salary might be gone, although they might keep him for a few weeks until the new centre/guard is up to speed on playbook and shows something at practice.

Looks a bit better for both present and future in last few weeks at Oline, but we'll truly see the reality if a significant injury occurs in regular season.

No idea how long it takes a torn pec to heal, but I'll bet it's a lot shorter time than it would take for a torn pecker. Of course, I'm only guessing.

Brewster could return at some point this season

The Cowboys moved rookie linebacker Brandon Williams to injured reserve today. Williams is expected to miss the rest of the season. The Cowboys moved injured rookie offensive lineman to the reserve/PUP list, meaning he could return at some point this season.

"Robert Brewster showed a lot of good things in OTAs. It looks like he's going to be a player in this league," coach Wade Phillips said. "We wanted to put him on PUP instead of injured-reserve so we could have him around and some time could start working him. If, for some reason, we needed somebody later on in the year, at least we have a guy with some ability and knows what to do, or should know what to do by that time. It's an outside chance that he would come back. Since it's a possiblity, we might as well do it that way."

The Cowboys can't put Williams on PUP because a player has to be on that list going into training camp.
