yep, those 3 guys and a bunch of scrubs to round out the team. That should be a super bowl winning formula. How about naming them, "the greedy boyz"

Fish knows about as much as us. I cant remember the last time this guy actually broke something we were unaware of.
Wait, the two highest paid players on the team are candidates to be restructured? How did he come up with this Earth-shattering insight? Wow?!?!?
Hmmm.....it would erase both player's 2022 out.....

We've been there done that and gone nowhere but cap hell.Keep kicking garbage down the road in typical Dallas fashion.
Top Contracts:
Salary, Dead Cap, Cap Hit This Year, All in millions
DeMarcus Lawrence DE $17 ($44) $25
Amari Cooper WR $20 ($28) $22
Zack Martin G $11 ($16.1) $17
Tyron Smith LT $10.5 ($8.9) $14
Ezekiel Elliott RB $9.6 ($24.5) $13.7
La'el Collins RT $8.6 ($12.2) $12
Jaylon Smith ILB $7.2 ($9.4) $9.8
Cut Jaylon and save 7.2mil.
I don't want to extend Zeke at all. Every further year is more bad value.
Restructure Zach. He's not going anywhere.
Cooper is an easy extend. Only 27 this year. His prime. He'll only have 6 dead next year, and I'm in no rush to see him gone. Push his money out.
La'el could be pushed out a little, *if* they're sure about his hip.
DLaw will be thirty and have 19mil dead next year. I don't want to extend that.
Don't want to extend Tyron. The oldest with the most questionable health.
Given the likely temporary cash crunch across the league this year, with tv contracts coming soon, I'm more inclined than usual to push money into the future and get some bargains.
This is a great post. The Cowboys can get out of Lawrence's contract after this year, but not if they restructure to save $12 million. Then they lock themselves in for 2 more years. and something else to consider, they would be pushing money out the next two years which would be at the same time Dak's potential deal is also going up, especially if it is a 3 year deal. The Cowboys will be in CAP jail until at least 2024.
What if Lawrence puts up another year with 5 or 6 sacks? You want him costing $33 million against the CAP in 2022?
There is not much they can do with Lawrence now. If they trade him it would be a net $2 million hit to their cap making the problem worse. This is because they already pushed out $15 million in restructuring from last year. Had they not done that, they could cut or trade Lawrence for a net $7 million save this year.
Lawrence's $17 million salary for 2021 guarantees on March 22.
This is a great post.
I feel the same about Cooper.
Realistically, they are arguably two of the top 3-4 players on the roster, but still underperform the contract. In Coopers case it may be more about being expendable, since his contract predated Lambs unexpected arrival.
Either way they always have to be part of the discussion when the need to cut cap money arises.
Its usually met with me being called a hater, among other names.
But yes, restructuring either seriously inhibits cutting ties with the player.
No free lunch ever.

They can create room with either player by taking their 2021 weekly salary and paying it up front as a signing bonus.Fish AGAIN is not making a lot of sense. On March 22, 2020 Lawrence's 2021 salary was guaranteed as his signing bonus when he signed this contract so the only way to restructure his contract for 2021 would be for him to agree to a pay cut and why would someone who already as money guaranteed take a pay cut? They can't cut him because that would add 26 mil to the dead money. Trade him? His sack numbers haven't been that good the past couple of years so what would he bring and then who would play his spot? With as many needs on defense adding another one won't help.
The same can be said about Cooper who's salary for 2021 is already guaranteed so the only way to gain anything on the cap is to get him to take a pay cut and why would he give up his guaranteed amount? Trade Cooper? The strongest until on the team will be weakened and the old saying of less is more does not work in the NFL.

The salaries may be guaranteed but they haven't been paid yet.
The salary is reduced to a minimum for that season and the bonus is spread out over the life of the deal for cap purposes.
No, I didn't suggest doing anything. What that does is two things. First it makes it harder for the Cowboys to move Cooper if they chose to do that because of all the extra bonus money that will go to dead money if they do. Right now he has 8 mil in bonus money and your idea would make his total bonus amount to 26 mil making impossible to move him in a year. Second that's exactly what the Cowboys did when the cap first started that kept them in cap he11 for 20 years because of all the dead money that reduced their usable cap money.
Lawrence already has 16 mil in signing and restructuring bonus and now you want to add 16 mil more so that will bring his total bonus number to 32 mil making it impossible to move him or trade him in a year or so without a huge dead money hit. Keep your Madden football plans in Madden.

When I post Dak 666(Cowboy Antichrist) there is total justification for this statement since the days Romo went down again!

When you say "extend" do you mean restructure, or extend by adding years to their contracts?
The Lawrence deal is a disaster considering his production. 12 sacks over the last 2 years is about half of what he should be producing. Restructuring Lawrence's deal means locking themselves into him for the remainder of his deal.
I would not touch Tyron Smith's contract either. He is most likely not to finish his contract doe to injuries. That Cowboys as eating $6 million in dead money from Travis Frederick's retirement in 2021 I want to avoid creating a similar problem with Tyron.
I feel the same about Zeke as I do Lawrence. Both got paid way more than they are producing and I want out of their contracts as soon as it is practical. I want to avoid restructures of their deals unless it is a last resort.
The key here is Dak's contract. If they can get him to sign along term deal with minimal cap impact early, they can weather the Zeke and Lawrence deals and they cut them when they need more CAP room for Dak. I am pretty sure they will not do any restructures until they know what Dak is going to cost them against the CAP. If they franchise him, they will have to restructure Lawrence for sure.
Hopefully the Cowboys have a better idea of Collins's health than we do. Any decisions on him have to be about his health.

Exactly. How about not giving out those contracts to start. Cooper’s deal is moronic. DLaw is an average to good player being paid an elite contract. Typical GM Jerry deal.Keep kicking garbage down the road in typical Dallas fashion.
