I hear you, but Marinelli wanted him and evidently thought he was special, without other viable options later on.

The coaches were all committed to these picks, so their reputation rises and falls with these players' careers.

I really think that Jerry was less of a factor than in any other draft.

wrong

So, you're saying that the coaches did not buy into these draft picks, McClay was insignificant, and Jerry just blindly picked who he wanted?

no jerry blindly picked who the special teams coach wanted.

What's funny is I've come to like Hitchens as a player.

But the logic behind the pick just makes me angry. They literally did the exact same thing in 2009. Drafting backup and special teamers when other major needs should take priority

Its the same as the 1995 draft. Nothing has changed in that FO since then, expect some window dressing and Spalding serving BBQ wings now. Its a short sighted knee jerk brain trust.

you've had your chance buddy and said nothing of substance to refute the evidence I presented so you can follow me around all you want it doesn't change facts.

Actually you took one small snippet of fact and twisted it into a pretzel and tried to present your fairytale pretzel as fact.

As I said in another thread, picking Hitchens is not the problem. What should worry Cowboys fans is it appears the front office is admitting they are not confident their star MLB can stay on the field. Therefore picking Hitchens in the 4th makes good sense.

considering who our MLB is, this is a scary thought.

Quote jerry "btw you have a special teams coach here that laid in front of the train for you so what ever you do you better be the best special teams player we got."

and regardless of what you say I've done you've yet to prove me wrong just following me around from thread to thread.

no jerry blindly picked who the special teams coach wanted.

It would seem plausible that Hitchens could be expected to spell Lee at times, possibly even start in place of our oft-injured MLB.

It would therefore be likely that Marinelli would have hand-picked that player for his scheme.

Again, with the rise to prominence of Marinelli and McClay and the revised structure of draft board strategy, it appears that Jerry has had less influence on the picks than ever before.

that's all conjecture, facts are jerry says the special teams coach laid in front of the train to get him selected, jerry told us we had a 4th round grade on him, and jerry told us that there was at least one other player left on their board that they had rated as a third rounder and he lasted until the 5th when we selected him.

we went against months of scouting and prep to take this guy.

now for my conjecture, there were more than one 3rd round grades left on the board and multiple 4th round grades both higher and lower than this guy.

You're right - it's all conjecture...........Like the premise that draft board priorities would never need to change based on unexpected hits and misses as the draft unfolds. Truth is, we will never have all the facts that go into these decisions. I just like the fact that more football people are having greater input to the selection process.

I guess it makes people feel better about the choice to pretend we did not pick a reserve. Jerry Jones has said it, Stephen Jones has said it, practically every source has stated that Lee is not moving anywhere.

It is a play right out of the 09 draft play book. I said immediately after the 09 draft that it would go down as the worst draft by any team in any sport ever. That is looking like a good call. How about drafting a LB that may actually compete and maybe even steal a starting job? I like this draft as a whole but this move has Jerry written all over it. Especially after losing the 3rd pick to come back and draft a backup is a joke. And by the way next time you draft a guy to be a backup please keep it to yourselves! It's embarrassing.

Pierre-Louis or Telvin Smith would have been better choices IMO. Interestingly enough, they were chosen by Seattle and Jacksonville, who run similar systems.

But we were hell bent on getting Lee's backup and not competition for Carter's spot, so it is what it is.

And it really does not have "Jerry written all over it". He just "listened" like he usually does, in this case to Bisaccia and Eberflus. Not a big proponent of having assistants make calls for their pets like this as it can make him jump the board and possibly ruin the morale of the scouting staff who spent all year evaluating players.

How the heck can a backup MLB be the top player on your board in the 4th round?

If what I have read is accurate, he was not the top rated player and Jones jumped the board to get him at the urging of the coaches. They supposedly had Street rated higher, but took this player instead. It is just ignorant to do that in the middle of the draft when there was significant talent still available. Thankfully, they looked like they got their senses back with the remainder of the choices.

It is too bad, because without this blight on the record, it would have seemed much more solid all around. But I guess it just wouldn't be Dallas without the fourth round reach that we seem to make a habit of.

Right. See, I look at ignoring your scouting department as a Jerry move. I did not see a lot of the BC kid but Telvin Smith was one of my favorite players last year.

So Will McClay decided to ignore himself and listen to the coaches?

This is confusing.
