And the aggravation of damage control. Not many owners, GMs and coaches welcome the side headache of having to defend their decisions publicly.
We all know that one in Texas that doesn't care about that. :)

if hes there at 60, i'd pick him....granted of course we have alot of info on his innocence. i wouldn't even be mad if we took him at 28
This broke so late, you have to wonder who will get an accurate picture before their pick. It will take a lot of guts for any team to take him on a national stage in round one.

No question that's a factor, but politics is still in play on day 2.

Definitely. only reason why i think teams would wait until later rounds to take a chance on him.

Not really.

And the reason is that you don't know for certainty, even with all your research, that he won't get pinched for this or face other charges, etc. There are no guarantees here. So it's simply a risk based decision.

Taking him in the 1st is far more risky than taking him in the 3rd.
Id love him at the bottom of the second. He wont make it to our pick in the 3rd. No chance. Hes also considered a very high character guy like league wide. So this doesnt really make sense. He wont make it to round 3 in my opinion

Which makes no sense.

He's a first round talent. If you're not ok with him in round 1 you should not be ok with him in round 3.

Not necessarily. Teams tend to draft questionable guys later because there's too much glare and attention on guys in the first round. The lower the round, the less the attention. A warped out of sight out of mind philosophy.

7. There will be no value hunters for Conley:
La'el Collins was a top prospect in 2015, but he went undrafted that year due to legal concerns. He was scheduled to be interviewed by police after the draft in connection with the murder of a woman he had a previous relationship with, Brittany Mills. Collins was not a suspect in the case and was never charged. The rich got richer, as Dallas added the talented lineman to its already talented unit as an undrafted free agent. You might hear a pundit say that a team will remember that and take a chance on Gareon Conley, who is being investigated by police after he was accused of rape by a woman earlier this month. They would be wrong. Several teams told me that, short of a complete clearance from police before the end of the draft, Conley will not hear his name called.

----

You have to admit, this is probably the most soap opera-ish draft ever.

And I bet the NFL loves it that way.

Yeah. If Dallas wants him, they're going to have to get him in the second. If teams truly think he's innocent, they may not want to take him in the first round, but they'll jump on him in the second and definitely by the third.

Yep and as I said, it's also risk based in thinking.

You take a risk like a Conley in the first and it turns out there is some validity to this story and he could face some legal issues, that's a bomb of a pick. But if you take him in the 3rd and this happens, it's a far less bigger blow to you. Blowing a third round pick is a lot different than blowing a first rounder on a guy with some off the field questions.

If he gets to UDFA status, I think Jerry would drop his pants again for him and we'd stand a good chance of getting him.

If we took this guy in the 7th round it would still get attention.

Heck.. If you take him on the 2nd day then that is all they will talk about for the rest of the weekend.

Taking Foster & Peppers is ok now because the media is getting ready to sink their teeth into Conley.

Heck even Joe Mixon has probably benefited.

We've taken so many risks in the 2nd round. If Conley is available in the 2nd then I want to take the risk.

He has 3 witnesses saying this is false and the girl never even filed charges.

And she refused to be checked out by police. If she didn't get a DNA test immediately after the incident and if there is no recording of Conley and her, Conley is scott-free, IMO.

Doesn't seem like a high character guy even w/o the rape stuff. Running trains with his buds in hotel rooms?

I would be shocked if they do not take him in the 2nd. I was hoping for S or DE in Round 1 / 2 and hoping to go corner in Round 3 and 4.

Did they do a rape kit? If so was his DNA found on it? I would look at it this way: if there was no DNA connection and he was otherwise clean and seems to have been that way for years then I would take a shot. IF his DNA is on the kit then no way.
