Did they do a rape kit? If so was his DNA found on it? I would look at it this way: if there was no DNA connection and he was otherwise clean and seems to have been that way for years then I would take a shot. IF his DNA is on the kit then no way.

As far as what I understand, yes, there was a rape kit administered.

We really need Ice T involved in this.

Yeah I read a rape kit was administered but she didn't want to talk to police at that time.

Which, by the way, having an attorney in the family, that is not uncommon for someone raped or sexually assaulted.

Yikes. The Cowboys must have some ridiculous intel here. I am all aboard the Conley train if we take him in the middle or later rounds. But first round is a massive risk.

FWIW, without the issue, I think Conley might end up being the best CB in this draft.

With the injury to Sidney, Conley is my #1 corner. Getting him at 28 is a steal IMO. We likely dont even have a quarter of the intel the Cowboys do in this investigation and I have no problem with him at 28. If they have even more for his innocence, take him at 28 and don't look back.

7. There will be no value hunters for Conley:
La'el Collins was a top prospect in 2015, but he went undrafted that year due to legal concerns. He was scheduled to be interviewed by police after the draft in connection with the murder of a woman he had a previous relationship with, Brittany Mills. Collins was not a suspect in the case and was never charged. The rich got richer, as Dallas added the talented lineman to its already talented unit as an undrafted free agent. You might hear a pundit say that a team will remember that and take a chance on Gareon Conley, who is being investigated by police after he was accused of rape by a woman earlier this month. They would be wrong. Several teams told me that, short of a complete clearance from police before the end of the draft, Conley will not hear his name called.

----

You have to admit, this is probably the most soap opera-ish draft ever.

And I bet the NFL loves it that way.

Teams are blowing smoke. Someone will take him. Teams were hot and jealous that the Cowboys landed Collins. Trust me, they're not going to let that happen again. Conley WILL be chosen within the draft.

If he's not, he's going to be a Cowboy. Why? We need defensive backs badly. We are America's team. And what player who thinks he's a star doesn't want to wear a helmet with the :starspin:.

Teams know this, and they're not going to let it happen - AGAIN!

Him and his teammate are the only walk in starters IMO

I think people forget that rookie starters at CB even for 1st rounders isnt very common

Conley hasnt said he would reenter the draft if not picked in the first.

That is what made Collins undraftable

Doesn't seem like a high character guy even w/o the rape stuff. Running trains with his buds in hotel rooms?
Really? Thats your definition of character? I can list you 50 people who do worse things in the bedroom and are public figures but still have integrity and character. Give me a break with that argument

Even if the kid is completely innocent, unfortunately I think he's dropping to day 2. Too much fire around a sensitive issue.

IF Dallas knows he'll be cleared, I can easily see them being aggressive moving up to get him day 2

FWIW, I heard both Kiper and Mayock claim that they spoke to teams who had vetted Conley extensively who were caught off guard by the allegations. They said Conley came back as a very clean kid, no real character flaws, etc. It was surprising that this thing even came up.

I'm taking him at pick #60.

And when I take him, I'm giving it right back to anybody that tries to criticize me for it.

Someone wants to mention "drafting a rapist", I'll raise them with "why should an innocent player's draft chances be irreparably damaged by false accusations?"

I'd venture to say that anyone asking questions knows less than the people who have investigated the situation.

I'd also say this, if something changes on that front, this player will be released immediately and the Cowboys will have zero to show for taking this risk with their second round pick. We will have no tolerance for this behavior, but at the same time feel that it would be unfair to irreparably damage this player based on unproven allegations.

If you want to be fair, be fair both ways.

If they have good info they scream up that board. The Cowboys love collecting talent

It really stupid to put yourself it a situation like that before the draft, so it speaks to his intelligence. Plus I just get a bad vibe, but even without the character concerns I don't like him. Weak tackler and, while he had one really good coverage year, it's not enough for me to pull the trigger at 28.

I think the opportunist picked the wrong player.

I agree with that.

The identity of the team is usually the QB and Head Coach anyways.

If we took this guy in the 7th round it would still get attention.

Heck.. If you take him on the 2nd day then that is all they will talk about for the rest of the weekend.

Taking Foster & Peppers is ok now because the media is getting ready to sink their teeth into Conley.

Heck even Joe Mixon has probably benefited.

Viewership decreases each day. It's still going to be mentioned, but not as many people are going to watching.
Furthermore, on the first day, the focus is only on one player. The next day, the focus is on the entire draft for a team.

And with Jerry being an involved owner and an owner who isn't scared to face the public, we have that added benefit also.

This may be one of those times where having an active GM who engages the media works to the Cowboys' advantage.

That's fair and the proper way to do it, but If Conley eventually gets convicted, drafting him at 60 would be considered another wasted 2nd round pick, Jaylon Smith non withstanding.
