Fisher on Murray

RB just isn't a position to spend a ton of money on in today's NFL. Didn't the Lions have a guy in their RB rotation that was a security guard before the 2014 season started? The Broncos starting RB was an undrafted FA. Good RB's can be found for a bargain price. Not saying Murray isn't a good runner, he's just not elite, imo. Cowboys OL was a top 3 unit. That's where the money needs to stay tied up in...

Actually Martin's block was normally be perfectly fine against 95% of the guys in the league.

Peppers just happens to be a 6'7" monster who has the rare athletic ability to peel off that block and get back to stick in hand in there.

My point here is sometimes you just have to tip your hat to the opposition.

Exactly. Great defensive play.

Good RB's are a dime-a-dozen these days. Most teams don't even start drafting them until the 3rd or 4th round.

Let him walk and spend the money on defense. Especially with a loaded draft at RB and a great O-line.

Good ones are. Special ones aren't. Murray had a pretty special season.

I'm telling you, man...I fully think that if we let Randle carry the load next season, he is at LEAST a 1300 yard. 7-8 TD kinda guy. The kid can freaking PLAY!

It's amazing to see the legend of Randle grow. It wasn't too long ago when people argued that he should have been cut in favor of Ryan Williams.

That doesn't mean he is special, and that's a lot of wear and tear to be signing him to a big contract.

He handled it. Smith used to get close to that amount of work year after year. He did pretty good I think.

I want breakaway speed

I do, too, but not at the cost of pass protection. I think Randle wuld have had a 1200 yard (if not better) season behind this line, but he's nowhere near the pass protector Murray is. I have no problem if we've seen the last of DeMarco, but whoever we bring in needs to be able to do everything he does, and not just burn.

Murray shouldve taken that 4 yr deal dallas offered

Yes Sir...he should have. I think he's going to regret that big time. RB's just aren't valued like they use to be. It's a passing league and only a handful of RB's make mad money. He rolled the dice that he's one of that handful....I don't think so.

AP with some fresh legs... At a discount price..maybe 2-3 yr deal

Yeah....maybe. Depends on where his head is at. I won't lie that I have reservations. He did abuse his son. But that doesn't mean he's a monster. He can get some help and still be a solid guy, but there is baggage there. I think it's a long shot he ever wears the star.

Whatever.

That fumble on what would've more than likely been a TD very well could have cost the team a chance to play in the NFC Championship. Not placing it all on him but you can't fumble in that situation.

That fumble did no such thing lol. There were other plays that was as big or bigger than that fumble. That fumble btw, that lead to a field goal and that fumble that got his butt in gear and added a extra step to his runs.

Murray should have had 30+ CARRIES in this game. That was the lesson we learned from last year when we let one get away against Green Bay and changed the focus of our entire offense philosophy from being pass based to being run based. The fumble was not THE reason for the loss. Cowboys, just like Lions, had MANY opportunities to put the game away in the 2nd half and just **** the bed. The play calling at the end of the first half and the entire second half was more to blame, as well as all the injuries (plus our lack of talent on D) finally caught up to us.

Run the ball and quick short passes to both protect the decimated D and a "compromised" Romo should have been the plan. Instead, coaches just kept exposing Romo to the Packers' strengths (zone blitzes) rather than staying with what was working in the first half (run pass ratio was almost 2 to 1). Love Romo but he needed to protect our opportunities better by getting rid of the ball instead of taking all those sacks.

Pay Murray or not, but the reason the Cowboys had the success they had in 2014 was because Murray was featured. Romo did not have to carry load by himself. Murray is co-MVP of this team, at the very least.

Not even 30 carries. I think Dunbar and Randle should've got more carries. Murray's carries was fine IMO.

I think Randle can produce behind this offensive line no question, but I also think if that were the plan you have to bring in another guy who can get you those "dirty" yards.

That's a great post....what most people in this thread miss is the fact that DM is BIG and physical. He can get you the tough yards that Randle can't. That said, I'm not in favor of paying him a bunch of money. Not enough tread left on his tires. PLUS...and this is huge: the RB's in this class are unreal. Gordon, Gurley, Coleman,Yeldon, Davis, Ajayi, Cobb, Langford.....that's 8 and there are some I've forgotten! No way on giving him big bucks. Draft one and have him compete with Randle. Then form and actual COMBO where the starter gets 20 carries or so and the backup gets 10-12 carries per game and stick to it. Then your starter won't wear down like DM did at the end of this season. His legs were HEAVy and you could see it when he ran the last month or so. Too many carries will do that.

I will say this: I'd VERY much like a bigger, physical kid to be drafted. Gordon, Gurley,Ajayi,Coleman and Cobb come to mind. Yeldon, Davis and Langford do not. The last 3 are too similar to Randle IMHO

Tell me about it. We put in Randle for 1 or 2 carries and he looked like he was shot out of a CANNON. Very effective, nice runs with fresh legs. So after that? Nothing. Didn't see the ball again...shame.

Problem is that Cowboys are too predictable with either Randle or Dunbar in game. Neither can pass pro like Murray never mind picking up "dirty yards", that is why coaches give him so many reps, especially when the game gets tight. Murray is not just the Cowboys best runner, he is also the best pass blocking RB. While Dunbar has slight edge as a receiver, Randle does not even come close.

Time to move on from Murray, can find a younger/cheaper player in the draft. Besides, if this team is going to splurge it should be in the defensive trenches not at the running back position.
