Fisher on Murray

I'm telling you, man...I fully think that if we let Randle carry the load next season, he is at LEAST a 1300 yard. 7-8 TD kinda guy. The kid can freaking PLAY!

There is a lot more to putting those numbers up...namely staying healthy. I'm not so sure that he has that in him.

This. Thoughtful. Includes an answer to the question. Not emotional or one derived from hurt feelings.

Just a business decision. Franchise the guy and see. Test the waters. Don't mess up the offense by guessing anyone can take this guy's place.

Sometimes it's better to just have your car fixed instead of buying a new one. Franchise fixes what we know works for one year.

People complaining about Murray's fumble are ridiculous. The play was made by perhaps the greatest athlete in the NFL in the past 20 years who made an incredible play (and the ball wasn't away from Murray's body). He never had a fumbling problem until this year and hadn't fumbled since week 8.

He ran for the Cowboys *franchise* record for yards in a season in an organization that has had Don Perkins, Tony Dorsett, Hershel Walker and Emmitt Smith as their tailbacks.

My question is if he can hold up the performance next year due to all of the carries. I tend to stick to statistical trends and there is one when a player gets more than 385 carries. But, I also tend to think that with advancements in science and training, a RB should be able to sustain their performance after 385 carries in a season sooner or later. I'd rather test the waters. As much as Randle improved, he still doesn't quite have DeMarco's ability to hit the running lanes. Peterson is worthless on passing downs and wouldn't be cheap.

Either way, we need to re-sign Garrett first...and do it immediately, so we can get the rest of our coaching staff in place and figure out what we want to do as far as acquiring players in FA and in the draft.

At the right price, I'm happy to keep Murray. He will be a solid RB another couple years. I agree Dallas should not break the Bank.

But Dallas rode this guy hard in 2014 and he played through some injuries. Let's not all hammer the guy for one fumble. If he moves on, so be it. But stop discounting his contributions to the team.

People might bash me for saying this, but a young durable Felix Jones before whatever the hell happened to him is EXACTLY what this team needs.

My thoughts are use Randall like Philly tries to use Darren Sproles. Obviously you need to adjust because Randall is not as tough on inside runs. But Randall in the passing game, finding open space to deliver the ball would be terrific.

I'd also like to see both used in the same play. I think Randall motioning to the flat across the face of Murray offers an opportunity to run a unique play action. Or a stylized option play wherein Murray can still run to daylight in the line, or a screen to Randalla, or find the open receiver. The options off a T formation with various types of motion would create a scenario wherein tyhe defgense has to decipher what they are seeing and where the POA is.

That option goes away when you allow Murray to walk.

i agree but id like a guy like Todd Gurley to go with him.

Anyone have a video of this play?

I was at the game and never saw a replay...the hole liked gigantic, but Murray isn't one that scores from far out like that...still a huge play, if he hangs on

Video please

No video, but you sure you wanna see it? You sure?

Hes going ot be 27. Find more RBs in the draft. groom randle and find a pounder RB. GO with a rotation. figure it out. Dez is more important.

^^ ugh, how frustrating.

I like Murray, he runs hard and clearly has great chemistry with this team, but the fumbles have driven me to insanity.

If we can get AP, or a decent back in the draft, let him go.

To franchise Murray it's going to cost about $9 mil.

Just can't do it.

That's way too much cap space committed to a RB with so many other glaring needs.

I don't know if I fully agree with this. Packers have Starks who is a reasonable everydown backup RB. Because of Starks, the Packers feel ok about resting Lacy.

I'm not sure Cowboys feel anywhere the same about Randle or Dunbar. They seem more like speciality backs to me.
Did you not hear Jerry say Randle can get 100 yards behind this line? Cleary the front office felt better about Randle than the coaching staff did. Randle should have been ready and able (I personally think he was) to get 7 - 8 carries in the last quarter of the season + playoffs. Murray I believe carried the ball 217 times last year....after yesterdays game...he doubled that number!

Same.. I want this guy.

I know he is up in age a little but we don't need to ride him until we start to get to December. Plus.. He hasn't played much the last 3 years.

Not giving Randle more carries really hurt Demarco towards the end of the year. He just had no 4th gear once he got in the open field.

I want Murray apart of this team. He is a very big part of why this Cowboys Team plays the way it does.

I want to keep this team together as much as possible.

Having said that. Its more important to make decisions based on Team and Organization.

So, if we have to lose out on signing a few FA defensive picks, becuase Murray wants the payday. I say let him test what he can get....

Come up with a really really good offer and sales pitch to keep him here....but don't cross that line , wherever that line is, that exposes the Team and organization. I know, easier said then done. Very hard decision to make.

If Murray gets paid top 3 RB pay, then good for him, bad for us! and it may be time to part ways,

imho. Murray would be better served to take a good deal instead of a bank breaking deal. But then again, place yourself in his shoes..... what are you going to do? :)

This is a very good post.

I like Randle, but he shouldn't be handed the lead back role if Murray walks.

Two things about Murray that are extremely underrated - his completeness as a running back and his physicality. A lot of the offense's identity as a physical group comes from how he runs. Murray runs to contact, sometimes a little too much, but he excels at gaining what Garrett calls "the dirty yards". Backs like that aren't found easily.

In terms of his completeness, with him being on the field, it doesn't give away play calls. Obviously, he's a huge threat on the ground, but he's terrific in pass protection, and is also a good receiver out of the backfield. He is, IMHO, the most complete back in the league.

That being said, I don't think it would be prudent to sign him to anything longer than a three year deal.
